Found a Bat.....
Working on the deck yesterday morning and the dog found this bat. Was able to call him off, before he got too close. With some help, I was able to find out that it is a female Silver-haired Bat. A common species in Alberta. It was laying there in a defensive position, so I carefully moved it off into a quiet area. It seemed odd to have been found on the ground.

There is a lot of times where bat's will get too tired or fly into trees/buildings and hurt themselves. Usually it takes a little while before they regain their strength.
Its also possible it is dehydrated. Give it a bit of water and leave it in a shady spot. It will fly away when it's rested

Neat to see.
Shoulda looked up. Maybe the one on the ground was waiting for it's mate overhead.

not to be paranoid but,....
bats are also the single biggest carrier in Alberta of rabies so any non typical behavior would have me being very cautious.

Flying has its cons. They won’t last long on the ground, in the sun. Give it cool shelter with water. If it’s not gone by morning, consider hastening it along, if it’s not already dead.

This ^ x 1000
If I saw that it would get the other kind of bat and a Viking style kerosene fueled departure. happy to have them around eating bugs, but any weird behavior is highly dangerous and should be dealt with quickly and permanently

That bat should be given the heavy boot/shovel treatment, with the way it appears to be fighting back with mouth open very High probability it has rabies. Your dog was very close to being infected!

It's cornered and threatened by the dog, aggression is a natural response.

Likely had just flew into some thing (stunned) when the OP found it- therefore being defensive with a human, dog and camera up close and personal!
Heads up call by ttanskter.

This bat is probably ill with an infection called "White Nose syndrome". Note the white around it's nose. This is killing off bats all over the place and a major concern for the biologists.

That would be a first, biologists are worried but it hasn't arrived here yet. That's why so many caves are closed to the public.
