Default Bow for six year old

Hey everyone,
I'm thinking of getting a bow for my boy this Christmas. He is 6, but an outdoorsman of 20, haha. He can cast a fly line better than 90% of the people I've had in my boat, and he's been shooting a 22 for a few years so I'm not concerned with him having a bow in his hands.

I don't want to get him a toy, I'm hoping to find him a compound. What should I look for?

Daisy makes a youth crossbow with 29 lb. draw weight.

Good stocking stuffers for your son would be a good slingshot or a boomerang.

My son shot a Bowtech Atomic when he was younger. It's a great youth bow and it allowed him to grow with it as it was fairly adjustable in draw length/weight.

Both of my kids have PSE mini burners and they’re excellent. Easy to adjust and have been growing with them.

I started my kids on a Diamond Atomic

Highly and easily adjustable of draw length

Large adjustable range for draw weight

They are not a toy - they are just miniature versions of a full compound

As you kids grows you will find you have to adjust the bow frequently for draw length (and weight) - save yourself some grief and upgrade the sight to something more adjustable than the stock sight.

Oldest son transitioned out of the Atomic directly into a BowTech for hunting.

I have heard good things about the PSE mini-burners as well, however I have no experience with them

Another vote for atomic. I shot one since I was six till 9 or 10. Was a great little bow but it could pack a punch when maxed out at 30 pounds I believe. Definitely not a toy and I could do quite well in archery shoots with that thing.

If you can find an Atomic, it’s a great starter bow for kids. If they are a bit bigger the Diamond Infinite Edge is another good choice.

True

I had intended on moving my eldest into the infinite edge when he was big/strong enough to handle it

Infinite Edge is more or less full sized and you can hunt with it!

He ended up in a BowTech Fuel instead because he said it felt better, but pretty similar bows overall
