Default Dumb flashlight question

This is probably a dumb question but I'm gonna ask anyway.
I wanna attach a flashlight to the front of my shotgun. Is there any reason I can't just DIY a little mount with zip-ties or a rachet-clamp and some sort of spacer if dont care what it looks like? I'm shopping for mounts and they're hundreds of dollars in some cases!

Is there something inherently dangerous about strapping stuff to the barrel? If the straps would just rattle off after a couple shots, oh well. I'll keep a couple more ties in my pocket. I'm not worried about it being tactical or anything, I don't think the grouse are gonna shoot back.

Yes it's a legit question. I'm not trolling I'm just dumb.

Cant see how it would hurt the gun. Not sure why you would need or want a flashlight attached to your barrel for grouse hunting, or if that would even be legal?

Red Green recommends duct tape.

I would suggest to mount it to the mag tube instead though.
Recoil is violent on the light and the finish of the barrel or tube so an actual mount is highly recommended. They can be found everywhere, even some cheap ones.
Using it for anything other than looks or illumination (not illuminating game while shooting)in the field is a no-no. Even lasers and IR’s are ‘casting light’, so pretty sure in our country, they are super evil.

Yup, be careful there - you don't want to run afoul of the law...

We aren't allowed to shoot after dark, for starters:

And you aren't allowed to hunt with a light:

It is unlawful to:
5. set out, use or employ any of the following items for the purpose of hunting any wildlife:
  • an arrow equipped with an explosive head,
  • a firearm that is capable of firing more than one bullet during one pressure of the trigger or a firearm that can be altered to operate as such,
  • a light,

Oh, okay. I was just thinking of how dark and shadowy it gets under spruce trees just before dusk. In my experience, that's where they like to hide. My eyes arent getting any better as I get older.

Its's been a while since I read the regs, thanks for the heads up

Reading the regs every year is a good practice. Could save you thousands of dollars and a lot of embarrassment
