Pheasant hunts 2015
All, I have been in Alberta for 14 years and have never been on a Pheasant hunt, I would like to go on a hunt with someone just to experience it. I will buy a license and would love to take a Pheasant or two. I mostly hunt big game. Would there be room for me in 2015 with a group with dogs.

While dogs do help, they are not required. I went out 3 times this year. Twice I walked out with my limit of 2 and got skunked once.
I'll have to look up the info for it but there is a website that has release sites listed. Brooks, Strathmore, High River, etc. They all have release sites close to them. I hit up Brooks and High River.

OP, ask this question again in the begining of October next year. I'm sure someone will take you out. If you show up to a Pheasant hunt alone and there are others with dogs, its common practice to invite the lone hunter to come with you and hunt behind your dog. Doesn't always happen, but most do, incuding me. Good luck send me a PM next year. You are quite welcome to tag alone on a trip.

^^^^ this.
I've often linked up with other guys. The more dogs and coverage , the better.
If you are safe, courteous and respect a fellows territory.... Feel free to PM me in Oct.
I'd be happy to get you into birds.
You better be a good storyteller. Jokes are welcome too.

You should get hooked up with the Junior pheasant hunter program, oriented towards first time Hunters.
It is located east of Innisfail..
Doug Wood is the man doing bookings now..

You can come with me.
I live near Stettler. I hunt everyday, God willing, from Sept 1 until the season closes. I have 2 very good dogs. All you have to do is; help me up if I step in a hole, be safe with your gun, shoot nothing on the ground, and that is about it.
A 20 ga. break action shot gun is plenty of gun. The birds will be very close, about 10 to 15 yards. Often 2 shots equals your whole day.
If I have company, I just bring a camera and my cane.

Does it really matter?
It is most unfortunate, but 98% of the birds taken during any regular season, will have been released from the back of a truck! Very few pockets of "wild" birds left out there. Hunting under a shooting grounds permit, simply means that you have that much more opportunity to hunt and work the dogs.

That is what I thought was the situation. Not trying to demean anyone. I see nothing wrong with a release hunt. I still need to try my first. But I grew up on Vancouver Island many, many years ago and I can remember my dad going out for Pheasants. I was curious if this is still an option in these high pressure times. A couple of the posts sounded like this might be how they were hunting.
Just curious is all.
