I’ve got some customs I was going to post up but in all honesty, for the money and performance I’ve always preferred the classic Grohmann 101 skinner.
I also think the Grohmann model 1 (Canadian knife) is about the most perfect knife designed.
Grohmann always has a great handle to blade telemetry.

Over the years I have used a lot of different knives and what that has taught me is how the steel has changed and still evolving.

I have come to like Elmax, 3V and D2. I just find Elmax easy to work with and it exceeds my needs. For me, it holds a long lasting edge like other knives with good steel....Yup I just like it.

Late last year I searched out a local knife maker from Strathmore AB, his handle is "clintc" here on AO and "clint c" CGN. (space after the "t").

There is so much involved in selecting a knife. Fit / finish and the steel are so important to me.... IMHO....it is personal.

Sure for years I used what ever would sharpen...haha. If you ever get a custom knife made for you, you will wonder why it took so long.....

Note: A custom knife price is often much better than a over the counter one, at least you can negotiate....

Good luck.

I love my Puma Skinner. Easily sharpened to slice through paper like warm butter and keeps it's edge. I bought a Havalon to help cape out my antelope this year but didn't find it to be any more useful than the Puma.

I have a Hudson Bay Trade Knife that was made for me. It was based off an old knife down at the Gabriel Dumont Institute. This was made by my good friend Runewolf1973 @ The Crown and Cutlass Custom Knife Shop. He makes knives from the 18th century, and I love this one because of it's affinity to the Metis people. It's a type of really hard carbon steel with a beautiful handle, and I love it because it's not a shiny pretty knife. It measures 7 inches long at the blade so yeah...it's a big knife. I had wanted one that would be a good all purpose knife. It's been scuffed up but I will get him to buff it out for me.
