Backpacking Fly Fishing trips

Where Are some nice remote lakes to Backpack into and do some quality fly fishing?

I have been to both Kakwa Lake and Fortress lake, Would prefer a lake a little more remote than fortress.... Campsites were full of Garbage

That's the entire issue with some of the random camping backpacking spots, too many arn't respectful of the area so tend to trash it! I'm not saying you are that type, as you have alluded to how disgusted you are... But it's a HUGE pet peeve of mine!! I'm pretty protective of all the places I go to so I can't help you ;-)...

Are you looking specifically for random camping or would you consider in park spots?

P.S. I hope you packed out some of the crap out of Fortress (within reason, of course)!!

I like random camping quite a bit more, but i am pretty open for different spots, as long as the fishing is good, and there are mountains around!

Kakwa has some nice random camping spots that are quite a bit more sheltered than the campsites. (not to mention the fishing isnt that good right by the campsites).

It was mainly the East end campsite that was bad, and yes we packed out a majority of it and burned lots of the cardboard that was laying around. People have the brilliant idea that its okay to put the garbage in the fireplace and cover it up with logs old coals...

You can hike from Shark Mtn at Spray Lakes over into BC and fish Lake Magog or Sunburst for cutthroat trout. Not a bad hike and decent campsite. There is also a lodge further up the valley. The fishing can be tough we tried mostly flies, they would rise to a royal wulf. We only got one fish but there was an old cabin between the two lakes that had cardboard cutouts of all the fish people had landed. If you can figure out the bite there are some nice fish up there.

lake of the horns and landslide both hold some ncie cutts and its a decent hike

OK, ya lake of the falls was my first alpine trip for fishing in that area..How about hidden Lake, one of my favourites.

havent been there but usaly the longer and tougher and more remote the cutts are in the lakes they are alot bigger
