Default fresherwater rods vs saltwater guides

High end rod manufacturers market freshwater rods and saltwater rods. Is there a difference between the two? Do they manufacture them more corrosion resistant and are the guides any better? I have a ton of rods all "freshwater" however I want to do some fishing in Victoria. Will i be damaging any of my rods? I understand that i should rinse all my gear down with freshwater. I just don't want to create and long term premature wear and tear damage.

The rod i want to use is a st croix 9 foot heavy moderate

Thank you
