Default Nikon optics

Just wondering what your opinions on nikon optics are? Bought myself a scope recently and for some reason would not stay sighted in.. it's essentially brand new and never dropped, bumped etc.

Nikon optics give very good quality for the money spent. That said some 'duds' get through quality control.
But rest assured if you bought it new in Canada most of their sport optics have a lifetime warranty...and Nikon is very good at making things right.

The Monarch line provides excellent quality for the price.

Had several different Nikon optics and never had an issue. Using Monarchs on three rifles. One of the best buys out there IMO.

I had a bad experience with a Nikon camera, and will likely not buy another. That said, my household has a couple Nikon binoculars and we have no complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to use one of their scopes.

Just a question, have you tried lapping you're scope rings? Quite often what looks like problems with a rifle or optics can be caused by misaligned scope rings putting stress on the scope. A symptom of this can sometimes be that the rifle will shoot differently if the torque on the ring-cap screws is changed.

Another way of checking this out is to remove the scope, color the inside of the rings, then mount a piece of 1" cold roll in the rings and turn it. Inspect where the coloring has been smeared and this will tell you if and how you're rings are misaligned.

Nikon offers good value for the dollar.
However, the Monarch 3 line - which was probably the best value appears to be discontinued. I have used several Monarch 3's and had no issues.
The Monarch 5's are step up in price. I would rather have a Leupold VX3 in that price range than a Monarch 5.

I just purchased a Nikon Prostaff P3 to try out because it was on sale.
It's a lower end scope so I'm not expecting much. I will report my findings on this forum once I get time to test it out.

I have several ProStaff 5’s in both BDC and NikoPlex reticles, also have 4 Nikon Black X and FX1000 scopes. None have ever given any trouble. Mounted on 240 W’by to 338 Win Mag.
