Ken Holland was a great GM at one time. He has proven he’s mediocre at best in the salary cap era. His last 10 years haven’t been great..

He'll be just what the Oilers wanted. A nice comfortable old pair of shoes who won't fire any of their sorry arses.

NHL good ol boy.

Yup old with his better days behind. Keith Gretzky is probably a lot hungrier than Ken Holland but oh well. Let’s see who Mr Holland hires for a coach..

I’d rather hope he knows how to deal with the Lucic contract!

It’s the biggest joke of the league so I’m sure he’s familiar with it! Will be an interesting and telling off season for sure..

I see a BIG raise coming up for Mr, Lucic... Should be quite exciting seeing all the new changes headed the Oil way.

If you think Lucic's contract is the biggest joke of the league, you need to broaden your knowledge past one team. There's 30 more.
There's a bigger joke of a contract 3 hours to the south of the oilers. Bad contracts come and go, the way it's always been, and will continue to be.

There are only a few lock tight contracts. That’s why Lucic contract sux. Yes all teams have a crap contract. Look no further then the real deal contract. Dollar value for what we got sux but there is an out.

Question. Is it official Holland is the new GM or speculation?

There's no doubt Luc's agent knew what he was doing there.
Dollar for dollar, Luc's is a better contract, but as you say, Neal can be bought out. Can't imagine a trade happening
Not actually official, seems it may as well be though. Guess one never knows
Sounds like 5x5mil

Don't think so.....
Oilers paid Lucic $7M last year for 20 points (3rd straight declining year), Flames paid Neal $5.75M for 19 (vs one bad year). That aside, I suspect Holland would trade Lucic for Neal in about 3 seconds given the opportunity.

Salary aside, would you trade Neil for looch straight across?

Whatever dude, I'm just talking hockey.

Nope, want me to bring up +/-, Corsi, possession, character....? Again, whatever, Lucic is on almost every "Worst Contract's in the NHL" list I've seen, have yet to see Neal's name on any of them. None of this worst per team junk either (well aware Neal's contract is the worst on the Flames), worst in the NHL.

And it's a 6mil cap hit vs. 5.75mil
Does anybody even know Neal is still playing in the NHL? I don't think anybody does. That's how much of an impact he has. What else did he do besides his 19 points?

If by chance both players stay put and play with current teams next season, I would have to say Neal out performs Lucic. Lucic contract is horrible, Neal had a bad year.
What's the new GM got to work with in order to right the ship up there?? Lot's of areas need attention. Think he will trade away the draft pick for 2-3 lower picks to get more players or bargaining pieces??

Do find it funny though straight away a dig to the Flames comes out.

Gave us something to talk about for a season?

I am hopeful he had a off year or something... Not holding my breath though.

Incorrect. Lucic contract is $6m per year not 7. Both his and Neals contracts expire 22/23. Both can be bought out but the Oilers wouldn't save much in the long run. I could still see 5hem doing it however.

Lucic can still fight. Neal?

With 250,000 per year difference both contracts can be deemed pathetic.

Think he’s top 3 in hits in the league as well. He definitely had more of a presence out on the ice this year compared to Neil.

That's like comparing fart qualities. All noise vs silent but lethal.

Ken Holland will become the next GM of the Edmonton Oilers
Ryan Rishaug
@TSNRyanRishaug
Can confirm Ken Holland has officially accepted the job as Oilers General Manager. An official announcement to come in the next few days.

Nope. MountainTi said "dollar for dollar" so I compared dollar for dollar.

You honestly think I'm having a discussion about Lucic's contract and don't know what he was paid? I guess some people might do that, but it would seem like an odd thing to do.

Opps, thought MountainTi said "dollar for dollar" so that's what I actually compared.

I rag on Looch as much as the next guy BUT I truly believe Looch gives a $h!t about his play. He knows he's not playing well, he openly admits it. He wants to do better, he feels the heat. Hopefully he finds what it is that is holding him back
