Default I might get muley draw this year, what zone should i pout in for?

Well i should be getting close to get my mule deer buck draw this season (4 or 5 years i think). Now i haven't seen a good mule deer buck around home for a while and wouldn't ,mind making a trip some where and tagging out on a wall hanger. Any suggestion on where to go? Pm me if you don't want everyone knowing your zone

I don't know if this year would be a good year to draw a tag down south between the Mulie's and the Antelope that have been seen dead. Just around the farm yard there have 4 dead ones found.

Im thinking the south is doing better then the north...with 3 feet of snow in most of 357 the deer herds are taking a beating, time will tell. Might be a good year to 999 again.

After the winter we've had, I agree! 999 might be the way to go! I drew in 206 last year! Ate tag soup! If you can get permission there was some decent bucks around there! I've also seen some big ones around Hanna, and I saw a bachelor group of bucks up near vslleyview in 360 a couple years in a row that had 4 bucks that I would guess were over 170-185 inches! But that was about 3 years ago now! I still think that I wouldn't waste my tag

North is not the place for big mules anymore; we had them and still a few around but numbers are way down. We also got a lot of snow this year. With the pics on AO this fall; looks like the south are killing some nice deer but again they got a lot of snow.

Good luck.

Default Mule deer draw

I think you should apply and go hunting. Enjoy your time afield. Kill a hog of a buck. My vote is East, and South a bit.
I've heard of some nice stuff in the North as well. Where are you most likeley to be able to scout more before the hunt statrs?
Do you want to drive 6 hours each way when 3 will do?

I'm conflicted with your question. So many more follow.
In 09 I hunted 3 1/2 hours from home on a MDB draw. The area had a compressed hunting week Wed-Sat.
I hunted the first 4 days and found a buck I said was a shooter. Saw him again the second week when I hunted Thurs - Sat. Ended up shooting a real nice Wt with my son present (1st time). I then returned the following Wed- Sat session and got my big boy on saturday.
Additionally I drove down in October and reintroduced myself to old friends/ farmers I had not seen in years.
On my return visit for the 1st hunt in November I drove another 40 minutes to get permission for a peice that was posted No Hunting. Everyone told me I wouldn't get in on this land. It's the peice I eneded up getting my big WtB on.
I had an awesome and memorable season wih friends and my son. We all took advantage to be outside in Alberta and took the opprtunities to learn.

So. back to your question. How commited are you to drive 2, 3, 6 hours each way. Where do you have the best chance of hunting private land.. if that's what your after. Is the cost of fuel going to be an issue. Where to stay?
Don't 999, get out and hunt and start your priority again.
If Strathcona County had a draw season I would give my left Nu? to be able to rifle or Shotgun hunt a MDB.

Strathcona county is part of the bow zone is it not? Why don't you just try getting a bow? Then you can just buy a general mule deer tag! And you can still put in a 999 for the draw. That's what I would do! Heck, you could even buy a general tag for the zone you want to hunt your draw on and hunt with a bow there! Providing the archery season is on a general season!

Well it's still up in the air weather I should take the draw this season, I can also draw my moose tag which I should step dad is getting mad with destroying the bales, and it'd be nice to stick a good bull with the bow. I may go white tail guiding this season to and when I do draw my tag I wanna have a couple weeks to hunt hard and try and kill a dandy since mule deer have always fascinated me

Statistically you may have to wait your whole life to get drawn in 999 but from what I hear it is well worth the wait. There are tones of hog mulies in that zone and if your lucky enough to get drawn its just a matter of driving up there and picking your favorite 200 inch deer out of the herd.

I need the antlers first before I can mount them. I got quite a few critters to sew up before I get to that big project but it will be fun though.
I heard there were big mules in 999

Big deer are where you find them

If someone shoots a hog in Wainwright, guys apply to hunt there

There are deer in many places. Scout it out and decide for yourself

Have a great season
