Default My wifes wants me to get a wall tent

How often does this happen?? She had one as a kid and loved it and now wants me to get one!

we'll pick one up that's good for hunting for up to 4 guys, probably get one with a porch - so in a pinch we can tarp off the porch as an expansion room to fit more people.

I've had a look at many tent companies including Deluxe and CanvasTentShop, but still looking.

I found 2 manufacturers that stand out:
Bravo Tents and Cylinder Stove tents. The Bravo looks to be a really good quality tent. Has anyone used their tents?

dont be afraid to look at army surplus tents they require 1 pole and real easy to set up. I have hunted in one it was a 10 man and there was plenty of room with cots, heaters and other stuff look funny but do the job real well
this is the link for the 5 man as theres no pic for the ten but look the same

The cabela's look very interesting to me, but if I were going to buy one, it would be Deluxe all the way. Here's a trip report I did in December.

Perry at Deluxe is a great guy to deal with and a real straight shooter. His tents are first class and his porch system is as good as it gets. I can set up my 10x12 in 20 minutes by myself with the internal frame. We'll have one set up at the Edmonton Sportsmen Show if you want to check it out.

Go with the Montana Tents from Outfitters supply or one of thier dealers in canada like Keddies tack or Prime time, Canvas roof light wieght walls stove hole on top. and inside frame takes 30 min to aasemble and same to put away and can lift with ease ive tried the full canvas and would never go back 14-17 is awsome for three guys big cots table and wood stove, highly recommend.

i always wanted a teepee, they are so cool ... but those POSTS! not sure how i would carry them on a subaru ...

spent a couple of nights in the kananaskis in one with a liner ... very comfy.

wall tents are also cool and the posts arent quite as eleborate as a teepee.

with a good stove probably just as comfy.

norseman seemed to make some nice ones. it seemed every time i went by a wall tent, years ago hunting, they were norsemans... and few woods.

nothing looks as cool as a teepee on the prairies tho.

We won't have the porch on the one at the show just because of the room we have to work with but I can show you how it attaches.

Yup, the tent can be set up with or without it in place which is really handy.

I like the concept of the tipi tent, and it would take up less space when packing the truck, but you can't beat a good sized wall tent. So much room inside.

Still cant get past the horizontal roof seams on the deluxe. All water that runs down the roof must go over the seams. Just goes against everything ive learned about canvas tents.
Maybe fine but just looks like a design flaw to me.

If my wife wanted me to get a wall tent I would be worried that she was kicking me out of the house.

Wow!,
There are as many opinions are there are tents. That tells me there's a lot of good tents out there. Makes the choice all the harder.

The reason I like the Bravo tents is they're made by a fellow who repairs tents, saw what breaks, and designed his around that, i.e. higher peak for snow shed, brass zippers, triangular corner re-enforcements, double stitching, semi-truck tarps for floor, high wind kit, D rings in place of grommets, 4" eaves, etc, etc.

However, they're down south and I don't know what it's like to get tents across the border.

Default Deluxe

The name says it all...we've had ours for 5 seasons now and LOVE it. Perry really stands behind his product and has been super helpful everytime we did something stupid and needed repairs.

Word of advice for whatever tent you buy, go one size bigger than you think you need. We wound up going with the 20' length even though didn't think we needed it but now it's great to have the extra space. I think we slept 9 guys with cots one year, although 7 is better.

I still have the 14x16x5w tent frame Norseman bought new in 1996 - Outfitter model (will need to set it up also for or hunting trip in a couple more years when all my friends kids start coming to have more room). Back then no one had a frame in Canada...ordered internal aluminum frame from Kwik Kamp in Montana I believe. Great set up. Easy fast - 2 guys 5-10 minutes and camp was up.

Use to leave this camp up all winter the mountains sledding. As our moose camp group grew we purchased a new 16x20x5w tent and frame from Deluxe Wall Tents with an oversized porch from 5' to 8 or 10' (cant remember right now) and couple more windows. We have a diesel heater now.....love it. The first year we had the tent we used the wood stove-worked great but one of my buddies was close to the stove and we had to rotate him in his sleep as he looked like a pig on a spit roasting .

Deluxe had forgot to install the additional stove ring hole as requested and paid for (noticed this as we set the tent up out at camp). At the end of that hunitng season (3yrs ago) we shipped the tent back and they fixed our "infield surgery" to the tent and couple other mods and shipped back to us-all at their cost.

Deluxe Wall tents all the way in my books!! Great people to deal with. Internal aluminum frame is the only way to go IMO!
