Default Orvis VS white river

looking for a new reel for my 2wt.

Thinkin about an orvis battenkill, but I'm also considering the White River (bass pro brand) classic ultralight. It's cheaper and I'm on a budget.

I know the orvis is a good reel, but has anyone tried the UL?

Between my wife and I we have 4 or 5 Battenkill's both older models and new models (all LA) - I should also mention that combined we have over 15 rods... Battenkill hands down!! You get what you pay for!

I've only used the Battenkill mid arbour in a large weight, and it performed well. As for the ultra light reel, it's a very basic reel, bare bones for a two weight. There is no drag option on it, you sometimes have to be careful pulling line off or it'll overrun. Other than that I've had no problems with it, there's not much that can go wrong. A two weight reel doesn't do much more than hold the line anyway. It's a very light reel, so I'd say it's only good on shorter two weights.

Yeah my 2wt is a 6'6". I had an amundsen TXS on it and it didn't balance well at all (the amundsen is a nice reel though, and now sits on my 7'6" 4wt).

I think I'll give the battenkill a try!

I have had nothing but good luck with the battenkill. Very smooth and balances really well. An absolute joy to use!

I have had a Battenkill on my 4 wt for the last 6 years, great little reel! Solid drag and decent retrieve. My vote is for the Battenkill.

IMO, for a 2wt rod the reel you use is just to hold line. I don't think you will be needing a solid drag mechanism.

Go with what you can afford.

When fishing for big fish with light gear, I for one appreciate the solid drag I have on my Battenkill LA I (& II for my wife)!! Get the fish in quick, no fuss no muss!
