Default Echo solo 8wt

I am torn should I dump my 7wt TFO signature series 2 for an echo solo that's on sale at said fly shop. I am only concerned with one thing is it a faster rod because I hate this tfo (find it to slow for pike flies)?

Do you find the TFO slow without the pike fly? I think maybe the "speed" of the rod is not the problem you just need a heavier rod to cast the big flies.

nah I find it hard even when I use it on the bow for nymph fishing. I mean its not a horrible rod but I find I have to put a lot of effort in the forward cast to get it to shoot line correctly.

It is described as med-fast. Considering no one seems to use the term slow, I would think it is similar to what you have.

Echo has some great reviews and some faster rods listed. Perhaps try before you buy if possible.

I'd recommend also trying some good nymphing line such as airflo's forward taper (can't remember what it's called, ask someone at fish tales). It really makes a difference. I run that on my 7wt nypmh rod and I LOVE IT! it also performs better in the cold, and lasts longer.

Ahhhhhh....the difficult choices in chosing fly rods....its never ending and so much to chose from.
Good luck.
I'm going through the same thing.
Try as much as you can before buying is the best advice.

I have a few TFO's and dont have a problem w/ them. They are good quality and rated in the top 10 best rods today.
So maybe figure your swing out before switching.
And maybe a line change.

rycoma - shoot me a pm if you want some specific info about Echo rods. I have many Echo's (including a solo) and can help you out if you want. I live in Edmonton if you want to try casting one to compare with your TFO I would be more than happy to try to help.
