Non-Penned Boar Hunting in Alberta?

I hear of boar hunting in Alberta; even know a few "hunters" that have been to a place in mayerthorpe for a penned hunt......
Is there anywhere in Alberta that anyone would recommend or a specific county that I could contact for further information -vs- paying $600 for a penned "hunt"?
I'm new to this site however; have seen much discussion surrounding this topic.

Mayerthorpe area find some land with sign put out oats and wait btw they don't go down to easy

Maybe a stupid question, but did you butcher any of them? If so how'd they taste? I hear very mixed views on the quality.

From what I have heard they are quite good. Better then regular pork and a lot leaner. I have heard that there are some around the Bonnyville area but haven't heard or seen anything concrete.

they are pretty much everywhere now, Mayerthorpe, Vermilion, Bonnyville, Valleyview, supposedly some around Rimbey as well. not to mention some around the Leader area in sask as well.

Once you get out there stomping around it's actually amazing how many there are in this province it blows my mind they are here to stay!!! we chased a small herd for over 5k through deep snow and thick bush and never caught up to them! They are one tuff animal!!

Yessir cut up all 4, just havent tried them yet. We have ate them lots before and the smaller ones seem to be the best. We have killed some really big boars and they stink so bad a guy can hardy skin em. I would guess 3 of these at about 150 and 1 was about 225?

I know where there was a couple of free roaming herds north of Peace River.

I know three farms that tried raising them, friends of mine. By all accounts they are as good or better then domestic pork.

I can attest to how tough they are. Was with my brother when we came across one. Average sized sow. maybe 80 lbs. Brother dropped her with a shoulder shot with his 6mm mag.
It lay there for a good two minutes, then with only it's back legs working it headed for cover. I thought we would catch up with it just inside the tree line.

No deal. she got onto a hog trail and we lost the trail after about 100 yards, looked like she regained her front legs, no more drag marks.

There was a skiff of snow on the ground but after searching all the trails, there were dozens, we had to admit defeat. We never found any sign past the 100 yards. No blood, no hair, just hundreds of hog tracks.

We were watching her when she started pushing herself into the bush, it appeared to us from blood on her shoulder that the shot had hit a tad low and forward, but we both thought it was a killing shot never-the-less, especially on such a small animal. She wasn't much bigger then a Coyote.

A Coyote hit there would have never got up.
We should have know I suppose, we knew they would put the run on a Bear.
And I saw where one old Boar held off a pack of Wolves, apparently for days, until they gave up. That boar was a recent escapee from a friends farm.
It wasn't a bush wise hog.

also fort sask,lamont, chipman,tofield,stratchona county and so on..........

They do taste better than regular pork.I butchered many wild boars and always found the meat more greasy than domestic pork.

Wow, from what i see they seem to be all over the province! I knew we had some but this is an eyeopener for me. A possible addition to our hunting list

I've been on a hunt in Europe for them and yes they are quite the creature to put down. Coolest part was hunting from a treestand at 11pm... completely legal to hunt at night.

Eating is not bad. All depends on the cook... have had some good and some bad.

Anybody seen any around Slave?

I killed a wild boar once. I've probably tried to eat fouler tasting crap in my life, I just don't remember when!
