Yes I know that 12 is now the legal age for everything, but you need a parent or guardian accompanying you. I meant that when I turn 16 and am able to drive will I be able to archery hunt by myself if my dad is away?

- Minimum Age: A youth must be at least 12 years old to hunt under the authority of any hunting licence in Alberta.
- Under 16: All hunters under the age of 16 must have written permission from a parent or guardian to purchase hunting licences.
- 11 Years Old: Hunters who are 11 years old may apply in the draws for licences if have completed the Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education course but they must be 12 years old anytime before or during the open season for that draw. You may not hunt until you are 12 years old.
- Under 18: To hunt with a firearm, hunters under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian or a person 18 years of age or older who has the written permission of the parent or legal guardian.

Just last week I stopped in at the wild life office in Strathmore to ask this exact question for my son. The game warden told me he has to be 18 year old to hunt by himself with a bow.

I agree the regulations are not very clear> To be honest I sometimes question information I get from individual wildlife officers as well but he did tell me you must be 18 years old to hunt any big game by yourself even when using a bow. It may be worth contacting a wildlife officer in your region to get his opinion of this law just in case the person I was talking to was incorrect.
