Only the larger models are built by John Deer, the rest are made by MTD, not the best name on the market.

MTD makes 90 percent of the riding mowers these days. Them and AYP pretty much own the market.

Sister has a newer JD and I've been called on to fix things on it several times in the four years since she bought it.
Hmmm

I have had several, and they have been great. Are they the Home Depot version maybe?

I believe your 455 was built by John Deer.

I'm not sure when they switched to MTD or what models MTD produced for them. I think it was around 2004 but not sure if that's right.

At one time there was over one hundred companies producing garden tractors.
Even the big farm implement manufactures produced a few.

I know Case, John Deer, Massey Ferguson, Deutz, Ford and Minneapolis Moline and Allis Chalmers did.

Even Honda, Arctic Enterprises (Arctic Cat) , and Yamaha gave it a try.

Now there are only three that I know of.

Your link doesn't work.

I had to go to imgur to see it. Nice looking tractor.

Manufactured in 1988, model was produced from 1987 to 1992
16 hp 3 cyl Yanmar diesel
Power steering
hydrostatic transmission
Hydraulics
Electric clutch 2000 rpm PTO

Sounds like a good one.
