Default Spring lake smell

Hey guys,

So when fishing Spring lake we drilled our holes and I have never smelled water that bad before. It was absolutely brutal. We walked another 150 yards or so and drilled and thr same thing. I would not have dared to keep anything from there if we had caught any.

Has anyone else noticed this, or know what it is from?

Do you see minnows coming up in the hole to the surface? Odds are the thick ice, and heavy snow cover is causing a winter kill.

It will only get worse this year with the prolonged thaw and heavy snow.

If there is an aerator on the lake, and I do not believe Spring has one, then it should have enough oxygen and there should be no decay and winter kill.

There are four aerators at Spring Lake, all in the deep water at the south west area, so maybe some areas close to the normal access points may be oxygen depleted. Hopefully most or all of the trout have figured this out and moved over to the aerated area!
