Dog Blind
Looking at picking up a couple of Mutt Huts to continue training and use in the field.
Any feedback on the pros and cons when considering new purchases of these for field use?
Thanks in advance..

1st question is why do you want to use one? save the money and invest in something else. as long as you have a steady dog will never flare birds. Just another thing to thatch, throws shadows and your dog can only see 180 degrees but upteen other reasons. keep the dog within the end of your barrel or will go deaf in time, my dogs lay beside in in layouts or in avian x blinds.

We do some late-season hunts up on some river mouths on the north end of Lake Nipigon and Summit Lake where we can encounter ice and constant wind and spray off the lake as the waves breach the shore along the bars at the river mouths. Late-season geese and mallards along the river and amongst the wild rice. Most days our setup is favorable, but have had the odd day where the wind played a large factor on both us and the dogs.
The Mutt Hut is to keep our guys up of the ice directly and shield some from the wind and spray.
The dogs are steady, we have not had issues with flaring birds, more of an element of protection for the two brown clowns.
180 degrees is plenty in this situation as most of the ducks and the geese are coming off the lake into the river mouths and wild rice, we did move the dogs back up behind us, they then can see up and over us the full length of the river mouth and also up away from the ice on the edges of the river.
No permanent blind options as the water levels of both the rivers and lake fluctuate year to year and it is a twenty-mile run by boat to some of these locations.

Take a peak at a sugar coat. I hunt water in Nov & Dec and they do a great job. Run a garage rubber mat that has holes to wick water off to sit on. Just an option

Pixel, thanks for the heads up on the Sugar Coat, it looks like it would definitely cover (no pun intended) the elements protection.

Like the idea of that Sugar Coat setup. Hadn't heard of it before.

All the yrs I guided waterfowl the best I used was sold by Final Approach.
Don't even know if they are still in bus. Went up in seconds and the quality of the cover lasted a long time.
I retired after more than 10 yrs and the dog hut was still in great condition.
If they still offer them it is worth taking a look at.

Not the brand you’re looking for, but I like my momarsh invisilab. I have the short and long leg kit so i can use it for field hunts or in deep marshes.
In the winter i unbolt the top, put the short leg kit on and use it as a dog bed in the ice tent or around the fire pit.
Gets use all year round, which is a plus.

I think they are all pretty good. I have a Rig Em Right, but the MoMarsh would be my first choice. Much more versatile.

Thanks for all the input gentlemen.
One note, I did get some feedback from Final Approach...
They confirmed that they will have a Canadian distributor up and running out of Cowtown by this fall, so shipping across Canada will be available via the new distributor. They did not specify who it would be.
