Default Want to start reloading- supplies

I want to start reloading (308) I know that powder has become very hard to get, I'm I better to back-order it and hope. Store I talked to said its on order but it may be as late as August. I'm thinking of Varget or H4895. Also new brass, bought some bulk ammo which works ok in my rifle but the wife's hates it so thinking of a "fresh start"

Any help or opinions would be great

IMR 4064 burn rate is very close to Varget so worth a try. What Range you at?

Huge difference, I mean HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE DIFFERENCE in my 22-250. But definitely worth a try cause every rifle is different.

Yep pretty close so is Rl 15... Those are what I go to when out or low on varget. I've found in the 223 xbr 8208 easy to work with aswell. Have not loaded it in .308 though.

You might save youself a few dollars using the brass from the "bulk" ammo you have been shooting. It will shoot slightly better in your rifle and stretch less if you just neck size it as it has been fireformed already.

Max charges in 308 for bullets in the 155 - 175gr range are usually within 0.5 gr between Varget and IMR 4064...that is pretty close.
I have had good success with IMR 8208 with 150gr bullets in the 308 ..but it can get hot quick with heavier bullets.

I am talking about bullet groupings. 5" with 4064 and 1.5 with varget. I dont know why it just was. Maybe the difference in his .308 is insignificant. Hell it might even be opposite of my results or it may shoot terribly with both. Thats the fun part of reloading.

There is powder around, you just have to look for it. I found Varget and h-4832sc easy. Then h-4350 on about the third phone call. Stores are still getting it in, it just doesn't last long cause everyone needs it.

4064 and 4350 are both good powders for the 308 if you can't get Varget, there are some by others as well, but I use mostly IMR or Hodgdon powders.
By a mess of primers at a time once ytou find the oness you like , as well.

Cat, I know you've likely forgotten more about reloading then I'll ever know, but I would've never suggested 4350 as a good 308 powder, maybe I'll give it a whirl one day.

Seems like lots of IMR 4007sc is still kicking around. Although having personally never used it, it should be a danged good fit for the 308.

I should have been a bit more detailed when I mentioned 4350- it works with the heavier bullet weight, 175, 180, etc.
Not my first choice, but it works well.

If i had some IMR30310 I would use that first as it works far better with the 1450-165 weights of bullets.

Hey all
for my .308Win rounds I use BL-C (2) @ 45gr, pushing a 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tip @ approx. 2600 FPS. works for me and the BL-C(2) is about $25 lbs. locally vs. $30 + for the Hxxx powders here. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I use it for .308Win, .223Rem and 7.62X39Rus.

Default reloading supplies

I hope that some one could find some place in edmonton or alberta that would carry BULK supplies of bullets and brass for reloading as these last months it is almost impossible to find powder and bullets that will fit 7 mm and brass. time some one opened up a shop to sell bulk.
