Default Curiosity Poll - Wood or Composite

On the heels of “What’s your rifle“ (brand) by Flieguy.

Having felt like a curmudgeon more than once because of my penchants for a beautiful wood stock and blued metal, I felt it necessary to see how many of us are out there.

Poll is simple, is your preferred big game rifle in the form of nicely figured wood or are you the synthetic/composite type.

Quality synthetic, but not molded plastic. That being said, I appreciate nice wood on my SxS and O/U shotguns.

Absolutely love the look of a nice wood stock and deeply blued metal but I only used synthetic stainless on my rifles because I love the look of wood. I'd hate to be the one who damages a beautiful work of art rifle in any way so I take my SS rifles into the field.

Like elkhunter11 said, I like nice composite stocks injection molded does nothing for me.

I'm with elkhunter on this.
For my hunting rifles, synthetic with adjustable length of pull and combs. Just makes it so easy to tailor you rifle to fit you...as well as being more weather resistant.
But, I have an O/U 12 gauge in walnut that is just beautful (IMO)

I personally like the looks of a nice wood stock better, but I'm too hard on my gear to have anything pretty.

I have synthetic stocks but hunt with wood. I don't mind wear marks on blued steel and Walnut stocks. It's character.

I prefer nice walnut, but due to the fact you cannot always get nice stuff, I really prefer a wood laminate, as at least you know what to expect, plus the strength factor and laminate is virtually water proof.

More than one style of stock.

All my guns have wood stocks.
Several match rifles have stainless barrels and one has a wood laminate stock, but fir my hunting rifles it's wood and blued steel.

I like how tough the synthetics/ composites are. My 45/70 was in perfect shape until it got a barb wire scratch on it this past fall. That would not have happened if I was packing my plastic Tikka.

I use plastic, composite, laminate, but there nothing carrying a fine piece of walnut in the woods. It all depends on the hunt as to what I'm carrying

I like nothing better than beautiful wood / blued rifles. I hate nothing worse than scratching beautiful wood / blued rifles. I know people will say that scratches represent character, stories, and memories. Maybe. I ain't there yet. To me they represent scratches. I'm working on it. Slowly.

Wood and blued for looks. For hunting blued or stainless with synthetic stock.

Interesting results so far. Have to agree, it’s hard to put a beautiful wood stock thru the paces...in rough places.

Although I am warming up to some synthetic models, … not completely enamored yet. Sako Carbonlite is helping there.

I love my wood stocks - too bad they end up spending all their time in the gun safe though.

I have a few safe Queens that don't see any field use, but bought my hunting rifles knowing full well they would get wear/tear. If you buy the rifle knowing it will get some rough treatment, it won't live in the safe.

Wood and blued. No stained or plastic base finishes. Just oil finish. that way the dings and nicks are easy to fix. Wood rifles are made to be handled. Ive seen as much damage done from safe kisses then, from being enjoyed.
Take those wood stocks out of the safe and use them.
