Anyone ever seen this bottle before?
Hi all! I was out scouting in zone 402 last week and I came across this half buried bottle. I was born/raised Calgary but do not recall ever drinking this. My mother is 75 born/raised Calgary and she too does not recognize it. This bottle seems to be in really good shape for being in the middle of a well used trail. Thought it was a pretty cool find and I'm just curious if anyone on here might be able to shed some light on it. Thanks in advance.

Measured in fluid ounces, could be fairly old, or sold at the Stampede as a novelty item?

Yep, I remember my father and grandfather had those bottles. Dominion glass company - I think they were made into the 70's.
Edit: Here's one for sale: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-art-collecti...ationFlag=true

Old pop bottle, thinking 50s and 60s, name of the company escapes me, but made in Calgary. Got one.

The old brewery in Inglewood with a buffalo/bison head - Calgary brewery. They made beer and pop. You would return your bottles there and they would give you credit toward a new full case ......... Really cool find.

About 40 years ago I worked in a bottle depot (first job at 13) and used to see those come in regularly.....i had quite a collection of old bottles at one point, long gone now. Wish I'd kept them.

I was expecting to see a happy pop bottle. Haven’t seen that one before. For those who don’t know happy pop was delivered like milk back in the day.

Calgary
The Calgary Brewing & Malting Company was founded in 1892 by A E Cross. The buffalo logo has been associated with quality beer ever since.
A beer so good they named a city after it.
They also made Royal Crown Cola under license starting in 1965.

I was born in the 70's so must have been like maybe 6-7 years old at the time - my dad would have me load up the bottles in his GMC Jmmy and I'd stack them up all nice and neat in the back area and we would head down to the depot building (right across from the brewery) and I'd unload for him.
My dad would get a case or two of beer and I'd get a pop for me and one for my brother.
Pretty cool memories.

Hey thanks everyone! I've done some digging through info from the Dominion Glass Company on the internet. The letters/numbers/symbols on the bottom of the bottle reveal a lot about it. It was made at the Redcliff Alberta Dominion Glass Company plant in May/June of either 1954 or 1964.
I can't believe a bottle that old looks as good as it does where I found it - crazy!!! Thank you so much to all of you for your feedback - it's just nice to know a little about it as like I said - born/raised Calgary & I drank a lot of pop as a kid but, this was before my time ;o)

Nice find.
A few years back hunting antelope east of Sunnynook I found two together out on the prairie miles from anything that would look like a work area. Put them away in a box of old keep sake stuff we have. Always wondered the back story to how they got there.

If memory serves, I recall my dad saying something about how the Dominion Glass Co. paid extra special effort into the paint they used on the bottles, so they would last a very long time with multiple refills without logo deterioration. My dad used to work for Scott National in the 60's - a large grocery, food and beverage distributor in Alberta back then. This could be why the bottle you found was in such good shape.

I think that stubby was a different brand. Calgary made Big Orange, Big Lime, Big Grape and Double Cola. The older bottles sported a buffalo head inside a horse shoe. The bottle that’s the OP posted was a later version.
When touring ther brewery, adults got to taste the bre but children got Big Orange. When relatives came to visit a tour was always on the agenda. I used to like to tag along for the Big Orange.

I remember when the bottler depots were a drive through. A bottler counter would come to the vehicles in line and give you a slip which I titled you to product or cash.
Pop bottles never made it to the drive through. Any kid could get cash or candy at most local stores. If a kid could not afford the 6 cents for a cold bottle, the store would often sell the pop for 4 cents but kid was required to drink in the store and leave the bottle.
