Sorry i don't have mules... but we go to some of the same places. May long weekend went up to mud lake for a beer. Still lots of snow, and ran out of beer but had fun on the 4yr old.

I don't have any new mulie foals to post this year but I have been waiting for Horn Stretcher to post pics of his little guy born last week.

On another note we plan on taking the team with a few packhorses out to the hills in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for pictures.

Might even hook them up today if the weather agrees.

Horn Stretcher...............That's a great looking colt. What's his name and what type of mare is he out of ? My wife says our mare is real close so I may not make it home soon enough.

Default Mule Baby !

We checked on our mare last night and didn't think she was so close. This morning sure enough she foaled early this morning. He's a dandy little guy and lots of chrome. Its a great day, no bugs yet and cool. We imprinted him this morning and mare and foal are in a nice straw bedded 12 x 24 stall resting comfortably.

Definitely an interesting looking little guy. I doubt he got his color from mom. What did the jack look like?

The Jack was a roan colored Jack that produces solid colored foals even when bred to a paint or appy mare. Go figure ! He's a stout little guy and his conformation is great. This colt will be for sale if you know of anyone looking for a cow bred paint mule.

Here is a short video clip of a trip Horn Stretcher and myself just made out to Onion Lake and Canary Creek. Mules were awesome.

Nice team and rig. It looks like you have a heater in the back of your wagon for camping ? what a great way to spend a weekend.

DogRiver;

Yes there is a heater in the back, there's also a fridge. I plan on taking the heater out. I'm having some problems with the fridge so the existing unit might be coming out also but will probably get replaced with a bigger unit. Think I need to get a little bigger tires on it and a few other minor changes. I'm still looking for a propane stove I can hookup for quick meals.

The total weight of the empty wagon is 500 - 600 lbs. That leaves me with a lot of room for gear. My 2 girls handle the wagon with ease. We averaged 7.1 km/hr going home over a rough 21 km trail and I was holding them back all the way.

I'm looking to get a forecart and put the girls to work around home. Start with a little harrowing, spreading, and work up from there...

I am still in the market for a mule for my wife if any of you run across one. Not over 15 h and good and broke.

We are going to sell the paint foal we just had in case you know of anyone looking. I will post an ad in the Buy and Sell shortly.

Yes Hawken, I like your mules. Mine are awesome in harness but I can't ride them. I have to bring another saddle horse along. It is a pain in the butt; but, dang are they nice in harness.

Why don't you get them going under saddle ? that would be handy and a lot easier. How tall are those girls ??

My long term goal is get them under saddle, but that just hasn't happened yet. They are about 15.2 - 16 hh.

Beautiful animals. My father, after coming to Canada, used to farm 3 sections of farmland in Sask. with mules. He ran from 4-6 in a team when he was 20 yrs. of age. He thought that he graduated, when he got hold of some Belgians. Unfortunately when he left the farm, all of his harnesses were sold at auction. They had not been used for 60 yrs., but were oiled and the brass polished for "poops & giggles". He was 95 when he packed his tent. His neighbour (when he was still on the farm) would drive his team of mules over and let the old man have at it. I guess he still had the savvy, because there was never a runaway, even at 90!!!! Believe it or not, they understood German commands.

Great thread, thanks for all the pics & information. Always been interested in mules but never had any experience with them.

Default Sold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We sold the mule colt and the mare and they are both going to a great new home in Alberta.

We have made an offer on another mule so if it flies I will post up some photos soon.

I have been away a lot of the summer and have not had much riding time but will remedy that soon.

We need some updated photos on here boys !!! (just trying to keep this bumped up)

Thanks, Dog_River

Default Meet Levon

Levon, the Missouri Mule. I met the sellers in Billings Montana. I took the back roads down through beautiful Southern Alberta and all the great ranch country and came out at Glacier National Park in Montana, what a great drive. We hope this mule is the wife's forever Mule.
We have been looking for him for quite some time.

Thumbs up

Looking good! I'm assuming he's well broke , as most mules from the south are. Nice find.

Levon is 7 and is really turning out to be a great mule so far. We looked at a lot of mule all over north America to find this guy.
