The top of the pass from Findly creek over to dewer creek

another pic over the pass towards bugle basin.

Sheep nut these are some of pics off of the route we took I have a whole album full of pics but don"t want to over do it. Maybe you are familar with the route we took one day I would like to discuss info about the area with you.
Ya...I've travelled that route several times and have done that Dewer pass 4 times to set up my camp. It's quicker to come in from Dewer creek.

Nice pics. I've been thinking of getting a mule wanting to use it for trail riding and hunting in the mountains and some driving. Any tips on where to look for a mule? Mule sales coming up etc. I've exclusively used horses but would like to try a mule.

Thanks

Another old picture.

That's not the cabin on the South Ram. Maybe the Forty Mile??

This is what my wife and I did for our honeymoon. The first 2 are mules brutus and spits, the next mule is molly. This is that famos pass that drops from mud lake to the whiterabbit.

My honeymoon was in Dewer Creek.....it's all I could afford. My wife only said running water and a bathtub. So there was a hose that was laid in a spring at a little higher elevation and there was a cast Iron tub. I had to light a fire under the tub ( it looked like I was cooking her) and you needed to sit on a block of wood.
Should have known what she was getting into, lol.

Well he looks extremely cool both seasons, those stripes back of the knee remind me of a Buckskin/ Preswalski lineage. Looks to be both impressive and a kind soul in that set of pics.

That pass would have been a good test on how strong your marriage is right off the bat. lol
The worst part was when we got to the bottom and realized we went the wrong way. We had two choices, take the long route or go back where we had come from.

the real test was for our 10 year anniversary I took her sheep hunting, I mean fishing. By the time she figured out we were really sheep hunting..... we have a hill out there we call hissyfit hill. So I spent the next couple days fishing.

Dad just about bought that line many years ago. I don't remember it looking anything like that. It's been quite a few years since I've been in there.

We're thinking that cabin is between Ranger and the South Ram. Heard it called Smith's cabin.

Smarter, smoother, faster, more endurance, harder feet, more surefooted, live longer, easy keepers, etc...

Did I miss anything guys?

I agree with everything except the "harder feet".

Here's why.
- they do better bare foot than horses do so people think they have harder feet.
- If and when I shoe my mules, my nippers cut into the hoof wall easier.
- I can squeeze his hoof from each side and it will flex.
- The best discription that I've heard from the mule guys down south is...."think of a horses foot as made of hard plastic, and then think of a mules feet as made of hard rubber". They wear better.

That is interesting. When I trim my mule's feet the nippers take a lot more force to cut than on the horse's feet. I guess all animals are different.

I fully agree with softer feet giving better traction. We have started to experiment with softer composite shoes lately to get away from the hard steel. I like the traction they get on rocks when they are barefoot and I figure if we can find a shoe that is similar as the natural hoof, the traction should also be compareable.
