This mules name is reggie. Her mother was an outside mare that was brought in to be bred to my jack. The first pic is a baby pic, the second is at six months old.

This poor guy has that dreaded Sheep disease... He trips a lot because he's always looking up.

This is a little mule named Angel. My sister (the same sister as in the wedding picture above) got her as a weanling and has raised her and trained her. She has been ridden, packed, and recently driven in harness. She's a real nice all round mule. The saddle is a custom saddle made to fit Angel.

This is Casey, one of the twins from the other thread, My wife was working on her last year and things were going great, then one day the mule completly went backwards in training and won"t let her touch her. So I just pulled her from the group and am going to spend the winter with her as she is to good to give up on.

This is the other twin Stacey I like her alot she is close to 16 hands and she will be in training as soon as I make head way with Casey.

I have more mule pics but will post them as other mules show up or if people get tired of looking at them.

Here is what has to be the most valuable mule you could find. Mom was in her late 70's when this picture was taken. She is turning 83 this year.

Well creeky I think then the trick question is how many well broke saddle mules come up. It seems to take me about four years to get them well broke and mabye a few more to get them so anybody can ride them. Alot of people I know go down to the states to buy them, there seems to be alot more of them down there.

We bred Karmen to Horn Stretcher's Jack last year. We took her to the vet for a pregnancy test after and she was confirmed not pregnant. We actually went through 2 breeding cycles but she still came up not pregnant. So much for my nice little refined saddle mule baby.

Well we were just out doing chores and my wife was explaining to me that she thinks Karmen may actually be pregnant. She is getting a round belly unlike the other fat horses. It could be hopeful thinking but I think it might be worth another vet visit. Here's hoping for a little black and white mule this spring.

this was taken in a spot named bugal basin

The center pic is of moose meadows. You rode through our camp about an hour ago and my camp is another 2 1/2 hours up the trail. Not many see this valley.

Sheepnut your a lucky guy to be in that area I consider that valley some of the most scenic we traveled through. Tough area to travel, when we went some 20 years ago, most of the trails were game trails. You would start out on what looked like a good trail then it would break up and disappear. I learned real fast how watch for old balzes and to pay attention to the lay of the mountains.

Nice mules by the way, I was wondering if you were still on here.

How many days per season do you get your trainees packing in the mountains and what's your average day mileage ?

Creeky we go out every chance we get and every mule is differnt some learn fast some take a little longer. I never try to rush them they tell me when they are ready for the next step. I like to see a quite tail, if that tail is switching then he has more learning to do. The main thing is we try to have fun and I think some of the mules get to enjoy it to. We used to do around 20 miles a day on alot of our trips, But now we have kids so we try to keep the rides around the 12 to 15 mark.

This pic we were climbing out of the toby creek valley it took us about 8 hours of steady climbing to get to the top. We are about half way up and are having a break and looking across the valley at what you see in the pic below.

Toby glacier

It seemed like there were alot of snow slide areas like this were we had 2 chainsaws going to cut a trail through if you look at the mountains in the background you get an idea of the terrian, if you look at the jagged mountains in the background that is the valley we followed down.

one of the first crossings we had on the findley from the direction we came

The top of the pass from Findly creek over to dewer creek

another pic over the pass towards bugle basin.

Sheep nut these are some of pics off of the route we took I have a whole album full of pics but don"t want to over do it. Maybe you are familar with the route we took one day I would like to discuss info about the area with you.
