Question Reloading for a 308 and 270

I am getting into handloading as a winter project, i am gong to reload for my 308 and 270.

I was wondering what works for you and what you have found that didnt work well.

I will be shooting Barnes TSX for both guns.

I am going to shoot 130 grn out of the 270,

I am undecided on the 308, 130 sounds like it would be good on deer, and probably 168 gr for bigger stuff

Any recipies you have would be a help.

Thanks for the info,

Brian

I reload my 270 with 130gr nosler bullet and 55grains of powder, it shoots around 1920fps. My favorite load for deer.

In my .308's I stick with 165gr bullets and use them on everything that way there is no messing around. Varget has become my go to powder in this case and pretty much with any 165gr bullet I have found a combination that works.

I have been using imr 4350 for my 270 and it has proven pretty accurate.

about 60 grains of IMR 4831 and a 130 grain bullet for the .270 and 45 - 46 grains of varget and a 165 grainer for the 308.
The guys Ii load for use the 165 for everything including moose.
Both work very well, but you will have to work up a load and adjust your OAL.
Don't do those loads right off the bat because your rifles may not be compatible with them.....

270 and 130's, either of the 4350's, either of the 4831's, 7828, and RL22 are fine choices.

For 308's and 165's try Varget, 4064, and RL15.

good luck.

165 gr for 308 is an excellent choice but not in Barnes. Just tried 150 TSX on two deer, both made a keel but they didn't opened enough. Both went through a boiler but does went for another 100 yards and one doe was still alive when I got to her.
For a next yer I'll try partitions.

Remington Core-Lokt are much cheaper than your Barnes or Partition. They will get the job done.

I use Nosler ballistic tips 130 gr. for my .270 with Winchester 760 powder at 51 gr. I am just shy of 3000fps and it's deadly accurate. Have fun.
