Default Boyd stock jobs

Some of you may remember that I won a 204 Ruger earlier this year and debated keeping it since I already have a 22-250. I decided to keep it but I didn't like the black plastic stock it came with so I did a bit of shopping. I had heard good things about the Boyd stocks so I ordered one for the 204 and one for a 7mm-08 I have that I don't use much. They come requiring sanding, finishing and some fitting. The 7mm-08 required a fair bit of fitting as the stock was not designed for a detachable magazine. I did all of the work myself and it was alot of fun and I am pretty happy with the result. I haven't shot the 7mm-08 since I finished but the 204 shoots really well with the new stock.... glad i kept it!

That looks great Chet. What kind of tools did you use to do the fitting? I've never done any stock fitting work but it's always something I've been interested in.

Great job...they both look like nice rifles....

Not really a fan of the thumb-hole stuff myself...but they sure show off that laminate nicely!!!

For fitting I used a rotary tool, flat file and round file. It was minimal on the 204. I believe that they offer several lefty models... google Boyd stocks for their website. Those stocks unfinished are about $100 each by the time they get to your door.

I have never been a huge thumbhole fan either but I have never owned one before and since neither of those guns are primary hunting rifles for me, I thought I would give the thumbholes a try and I must admit that they are kind of growing on me.

Thanks for the comments .

Chet

They look great. I've been debating a Boyd's stock for my .22 for about a year. I think my mind is made up now.

Hey Chet did you order them right from boydsgunstocks.com or did you go through a dealer/distributor? The reason I ask is I was checking out the website and according to their help section, they don't ship up here.

I ordered right from Boyds. Call them directly. They will ship orders under $100 (who knows why) to Canada. I had to order each stock separately to fit under the $100 limit, and of course only the unfinished stocks will be price under $100.

Wow that's a great price for such a nice piece of wood. What can you really get for $100 now of days?
