Default Spin Rod Fly Fishing

I used this method for sea run browns, in tida ponds, but found it very effective most everywhere. The distance of the cast, the advantage.
The cork weighted bobber worked best, but the water weighted, very good.
Two snelled flys on loops, 4or 5 ft from the bobber.
Of course any fly patter can be used, but i found this simple fly the best--size 18 hook---silver body--black hackel.
Reel very slow just to keep tension, on the cast. Quartering with the wind if possible, seems to work best.

I sometimes use this with great success. I find it easier to use if your heading to a small stream with tight cover. The best advantage of this is the casting effectiveness, You could throw your flies farther than any fly rod could if your setup is perfect. This is an easy alternative for those who don't want to take on learning to fly fish.

Its a great way to catch fish. Beats the heck out of all the effort of fly fishing. Often better at getting into spots where the wind is giving trouble.

I'd heard that people did this, but never thought anyone would publicly admit it.

It's a great system for a flyfisher who has had shoulder surgery or an injury preventing him or her from casting and wants to fish with flies he or she has tied. Or maybe he or she cant cast a fly rod but still wants to enjoy fishing with flies. Who are you to play judge and jury??? at least he is fishing and enjoying the sport! get the $%#&^ off your high horse and stop being so damn self righteous! People like you spoil the sport of fishing!

This should be in the Fishing section as this is not fly fishing. To be fly fishing one must utilise the weight of the fly line to carry the flies, not a weight. That is bait casting with flies.

That said i don't care how you fish if it is legal but don't call it fly fishing

x2 to these Philadelphia Dandy's & High Talkers

and if you dippers use cork indicators u r now centre pinning flys

if you use weighted eyes on your fly et cetera u r now jigging

if you have ever looked at a san juan worm, an egg pattern, or a streamer you are bait fishermen now ... Shame On U All

i personally have found great success with flies tipped with worms or maggots .... sewn minnows also work great with an attracter fly above them

Default Confessions of a Fly Fisherman

This is all too funny...

I confess, I do own 2 spinning rods and chuck gear on occassion.
My wife also has a couple spinning rods and I do on occassion set her up with a water filled bobber and flies.

I'm sorry, I won't do it again and I will hand in my "Elite" card by the end of the day. 😎😫😰😈

Every time I venture onto the shooting/hunting/trapping forums I get suspended.
I now choose my words very carefully, trying to get my shots in with impunity.

Default catching fish

My french fishing partner Luc, handles a fly rod like a surgeon handles a scalpel. He does own a spin rod, or tackle.
One trip to Pierre greys we set up the zodiac in the first small pond, not a trout riseing, several circles with the electric motor not a hit, or rise, I set my fly rod aside, and case a #3 blue fox, released 7or8----I suggested putting a fox on his fly rod, we kept our 10 trout limit, for frying, for the gang back at camp---catching trout soooo fun--even more so when everybody in the group has success.
