Of course ... and in the spirit of X-mass colors, too.

I've also caught Walleye, Perch, Pike & a Burb or two on the Yellow/Red bead.

What lb do most guys prefer to use for whites? 5lb? I have a whole tackle box of wireworms and whitefish is one species I've never really targeted before.

For me, Maxima Ultra Green 8 lb. Extra backbone for those huge whites at Pigeon. Otherwise I do carry some 6lb flouro with me just in case.

Jawjacker .... that's a fine assortment.

Now comes the challenge, to decide if you tie 2 per line/rod or just one and which to you go with first.

One tip - if you plan to tie 2 W/W's per rod, put the brightest color down below it's much easier to sight fish first thing in the morning with low light or in murky water.

We all look forward to a few updates on your success.

Cheers

David

Side Note: The Jolly Roger is up F/S in the B/S.

Decided to pull out my W/W components and add a few to my season opener line up. Found the Hot Pink wire at Michael's, not sure if they look hot or not, maybe the Pink Mag's will do the trick! Made a few of the dark brown from Cat 5/6 cable and added the green glow bead that produced a number of nice Whites last December.

A couple of pic's ....

D.

Fresh Large P-Mag's ... irresistible!

Jj ... I recall member Waterninja, (banned-rest his sole), said his buddy swore by "Pink". I found the pink wire over the summer & decided to give it a try. Will report my findings. You normally can tell if Whites show any interest in your creations after 2-3 times out. What I mean is, if you see a number of Whites in the area and they come up towards your presentation and at the last second turn away you pretty much know their not interested. This is why I fish 2 w/w on 1 rod, you improve your chances & get a good idea what they're interested in, if they continuously turn away, that presentation goes to the back of the line up.

The w/w's in my pic's are proven & have caught numerous Whites.

Cheers

D.

Pretty good example of why certain colours work better than others, particularly at depth. I now know why orange is so lethal for deep water walleye and burbs.

Obviously the loss of colour is amplified under the ice due to the lower UV light penetration.

Like Bwackwabbit says color matters particularly in deep or murky water.

When fishin W/W's for Whites, most people sight fish and are in shallower water. At times, Whites like something flashy & they can be curious & will come over for a look or see if they can scrounge a free meal after a perch/walleye/pike get caught or you loose your bait and it settles down to the bottom. When you get bored, put on a tiny flashy spoon I like to use Vibro and a brighter colored W/W about 12-14" above it, pound the bottom stir up the sand/silt and twitch the W/W a couple times you may be surprised what comes for a look. I've had good success on the candy cane yellow/orange or bright green colors.

Something a bit different with a twist.

Hot Pink & Red Strip .... might just do the trick.

5 more sleeps 'til the season opener!

This is one of the top threads on here. Just very interesting to see what everyone is coming up with.

Nice work on starting the thread and all the info Zip. Those latest creations are looking good. I hope they work out. Good luck on opening week.

P.S. What are you going to call this latest creation Zip? Given the pink I was going to suggest The Hot Barber Pole but that quickly made me very uncomfortable

Came home from work today to be given these from my 15 year old boy. He spent his afternoon making them. The proud look on his face made my day. I cant wait for him to catch his first white fish on them.

Snap & Bwabbit .... Pink is the new Hot ... Barbie it is! Also pleased to see the number of members contributing this year, lots of great W/W examples.

J-J .... tks for sharing the story & pic's, his color choices work well together. I've never made one in that blue/yellow bead color before, it will be interesting to hear back from you if Whites or Perch take an interest in it.

I spent an hour or so getting all my gear together today, changed out the floro line on my 3 rods, sharpened up the auger, and found my ice cleats, too.

Sylvan has very little to no snow left, looks like a skating rink, Fellas, if you don't have any consider picking up some cleats, got these from Cdn Tire 2 years ago, size 13+, best investment ever.

Looking forward to checking the ice thickness on Saturday, more to follow.

I found mine at princess auto, they're a rubber elastic style but for how often they get used can beat it. I think they were 12. Organizing my w/w collection tomorrow. Might add some pics! I made a blue and white candy cane last year and it worked at gull, but zero interest at sylvan. Interesting how it varies Lake to lake.

I finally picked up my first set of cleats too at Marks. I have some lighter boots for say up to -10 and then heavy and larger boots, due to hard toe and more material, that are for colder. So I needed something that would stretch for both:

http://www.korkers.com/footwear/wint...ats-ultra.html

Interesting on what works on different lakes for W/W. No doubt water clarify makes a difference. I would think darker colors with a glow bead would work better at Gull while brighter colors should work better at Sylvan. That is my theory now let's prove it

They make a kit you can buy that you can use to stud your boots just like your tires. They work awesome

I went out to Lac St Anne today to check out the ice depth and was surprised to see a few vehicles on the ice. The ice is approx 12 inches . I walked up to a few older guys laughing and having a great ol time . They were hammering the Whites. I watched them bring up 5 while talking to them for 10 min span. I asked what they were using? The one man reached into his bag and handed me these worms. Said his son makes them for him. I went to hand them back, he pushed my hand back towards me and said Happy holidays . God I love fisherman. Were a special type
