Sounded like a hunter ran out of toilet paper and had to use pine cones.

Undoubtedly, but which of the many documented and cataloged sub-species is it?

Actually, there is only one species, but they are shape shifters so they have many identities.

It’s Don Cherry. He went for a nature walk to cool off...

It doesn't sound desperate enough for it to be that IMO

It's a wolf.

Distance and geography can distort sounds dramatically. Once you've heard that sound, there is no mistaking.

Default Strange Noises in The Woods-Any Guesses

To me, that sounds a whole lot like a moose roar. Just the end notes are throwing me off - however it’s been years since I’ve heard that sound in the wild.

Some time ago I searched for audio recordings of that call; haven’t found any to date. It’s not commonly witnessed.

Cloned T-Rex re-birthed by a Mad Scientist from mosquito-sucked blood containing dinosaur DNA preserved in amber.

There's lots of places in Alberta and BC wilderness areas where ya could hide a herd of dinosaurs where no one would ever see them, even from the air or by satellite.
