I had the pleasure of using that rifle to give a WT doe a full lobotomy at a fair distance. Absolutely beauty to shoot.

I had my gunsmith turn a laminate blank on his duplicator using an SPS stock as the original, he left the grip over sized, which I finished down slightly forward of the original, so it fits her smaller hands better.

The blank cake from Richard’s Microfit, before the loud mouth go them to quite whipping to Canada.

Made the trip down from from Ft. McMurray today to Drayton in pretty good time considering road conditions!
Got down in plenty of time to get the evening hunt in sitting in Dick’s box blind but besides s bunch of does on the way in we didn't We anything .
I plan to hit it hard tomorrow though , we will see what happens!

Default Son In Law Gets His Buck

With Catnthehat sitting in the blind I killed my buck out of because the Pit Boss was doing what almost 21 yr old young men do on weekends. The Son In Law drew into the blind my Daughter took her deer in.
The SIL took his mother to the blind with him(good thing they are slim folks)
The morning was a solid bust across the board.
Cat and I head back to town at 10, with an alternate plan in mind.
We had a quick breakfast, and were loading up a ground blind and portable heaters, for the new idea. When we came back into the house we were given the news that the SIL shot his buck.
Change of plans. Cat is going to that blind, the Pit Boss is going to the other blind, and I’m playing chauffeur.

Congrats to all of the successful hunters 😀
Your turn now Cat 👍. Also thanks for sharing the pictures and stories Dick 😀

We are headed into a different place fir tomorrow evenings hunt but I think the morning will see me in the fence line blind again .

Congrats again looks like you guys know your area well or have a lucky horse shoe

You guys try any calling or just sitting silently?

Been slower than normal calling bush deer but conditions have not been the best either. But it’s only going to get better and I know their IQ is dropping each day lol

Good luck

No calling yet, these deer were all taken in a funnel/ transition area
Dick has taken many good deer out of that stand over the years

I figured there might be a little knowledge involved in the success because dumb luck only goes so far lol

Totally different style of hunt and area between our hunts. Tight pockets in the bush for me with max visibility being 40yards so kinda stuck waiting for one dumb enough to come into a call.

But I need to get out there and try my luck or I won’t get nothing

Good luck to you guys today

Yeah this is the first time in over 50 years that I have hunted out of a heated box blind it is different!
I am a still hunter/ stalker, so it has been an education for sure !
