We had a little quicker trip this year.....only 62hrs of driving time.

We dumped the trucks and continued another 52km's into the mts along the historic Canol "Goat Trail" on three Argo's with 4 guys.

Coldredneck (Ken) off of this site came along. My old sheep partner is livin' the life in sunny AB now so he was the official ptarmigan slayer.

Myself, Craig and George had moose, sheep, bou and grizz tags each....kinda full pockets.

The sheep hunting was a little rough as the snow came pretty quick. After about two days the tops were just too marked up to pick up sheep. We focused pretty hard on moose.

Here is us spotting looking at the area we eventually killed several in....over 20 picked out on the other side

Gonna get right down to the pics....not a lot of foreplay

I finally killed what I think is a pretty good one

He's 65" wide and the beams are just over 8" around. He has a big kicker sticking out of the back of his right paddle that is very cool. You can see the velvet hanging off of it as it is resting on my left knee.

Thumbs up

Congrats buddy. Not a bad swamp donkey and caribou. That new house will be filled up in no time, much to your wife's delight I'm sure.

Cat:

I think of you every time I'm in the mts at this time of year. These things are available in the hundreds/thousands. It is crazy. You would have a blast my friend!!!!!!!!!!!

We killed 18 in about 8 minutes on the way in. Ken cooked em' up in a Dutch oven........we ate like kings!!!!

These rock ptarmigan just get prettier the longer we stayed. Eventually the brown was almost totally gone from the bodies and the males keep it on their heads and necks.

One day Cat....you gotta come along!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a great trip in this year!!

George was coming in for the first time so we chatted a fair bit on the way in. My buddy Craig got first choice on sheep and George wanted the first chance on the moose. I'm all good with that and settled into a strong second seat on both.

Second day in we stopped to glass and a cow and calf came up to see what we were. Mad scramble cuz Craig is a meat hunter and he just saw some brown. All I heard was George yell....."You take the cow and I GOT THE CALF". Needless to say I kicked my feet up and watched George paste the calf and Craig miss the cow.

I climbed an important rung on the ladder that day

I laughed when George looked at my bull and said, "Guess I shoulda waited!!"

There's always next year Brutha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Craig wound up killing a solid 55" meatbull....we actually jumped it on the way to kill mine.

Unfortunately we do not have a hunter host program here. Non residents of the Territory must use an outfitter for all big game. They consider wolf and wolverine big game here to boot.

They do have one in the Yukon....you can do the same hunt there.

The only one on the trip is here in YK

We leave Yellowknife and head down the Ft. Simpson highway and then down into BC on the Liard highway.

Hang a right on the Alaska Highway and head to Watson Lake.

Head back East to Ross River and cross the cable ferry....then it's a 10+ hour trip to cover the final 320km's or so. Not nice on the trucks here.

From the trail head we go in just over 50km's to where we camp. From there we travel passes/valleys till we find what we're looking for. This year we killed our moose about 22km's from camp as the crow flies.

Then we turn around and head back home.

Just a scenic little trip around the block, huh?

Wait until I come up there for the weekend your wife will wish she had more kids with the mischief we can get in to.

Yup....was that you driven Redstone's horses at 208?

We wound up staying at Caribou Pass and then we go in from there. Got our moose just over 20km in from there.
