When do bucks get their antlers
Seen this nice velvet whitetail buck today, looked like a stubby 6x6. I didn't think they would be this big this time of year, but then again I have no I idea when they start to grow.em out again. Is this pretty common this time of year?

I have a batchelor group of bucks on camera. One buck i recognize from the scar on his left leg and the notch in his ear. He is the buck my wife was after last year but naturally he didnt cooperate. We found a shed from him and it scored 77 3/8 as a clean 5 point side, the other side is identical except for a 7 inch drop and a 3 inch sticker. He definatly grosses over 180, anyways I have him on camera 4 days ago and it is very hard to see tines yet but at close range on the camera you can tell he is a hog. He has good brows already and then two huge clubs for main beams, few small nubs for points.

Each deer grows at a different rate, some might start slow and end with a bang, some blow some serious bone at the start then dont do much for the last month.
usually you can really tell potential in the second week of july. Though i have seen bucks in mid-late June that look fully grown.
This is a buck from the first week in July 2007. As you can see he has some more growing to do, but you can tell he will be a good buck.

it all depends on food, genetics, stress level, previous winter and others factor.
These are the best pics I got of antler growth, july 1 2007, I was standing at less than 20 yds.

Your funny. I know you are joking but if I find a good location that houses some big buck I would keep it to myself.
Like the one I want to go after this year.
Scouting time for me coming within the next few weeks.

I finally seen my first velvet buck of the year. He is a mulie already got about 22" of beam and he dont even have anything branching off yet. If its the same buck from last year I seen that lives in this area he should be a 205 or so. I dunno how much bigger each year they get, But last year I judged him at 200. The last deer I judged I managed to shoot and was only 6 4/8ths off of the actual score. I know this suckers a monster and I have a few ideas on where to get him, now only if I can manage to get my mulie draw Ill be laughing

The one I seen wasn't as high as this one, but it was a lot wider. Might have to do some serious scouting around there this fall, but its a pretty well traveled area.
