Default I need you guys!!

Crazy where a guy finds himself sometimes.
It all started with a new years eve holiday in Vegas. I met the girl of my dreams… fast forward two years later to now. She’s been finishing her degree and I’ve been living the dream guiding just about full time. Welp she’s graduated and we’ve made it to the “live together stage” which finds us recently moved in with her parents in Temecula California (South California). Now I’m as country as it gets, raised in small town Alberta on a ranch, born with a gun in one hand and a hockey stick in the other. I live 2 hunt. (seriously check it out live2hunt.com)
So here I am, living it up California style, sleeping in, going out to the movies, regular showers ect ect. IM GOING CRAZY IN THIS CIVILIZED METROPOLITON FREAKY PLACE!!! Help me stay sain until I get back home to gods country in the spring. Keep the hunting stories and pics and jokes and all the other normal stuff good people talk about coming!!! If I have to listen to one more lady gaga or eat one more burrito or spend one more minute in traffic I’m seriously going to start falling apart. All I want is one good smoked brown trout from the Raven river with butterflied barbequed whitetail tenderloin and a side of moms garden greens and spuds.
You good folks at Alberta Outdoorsman are the salt of this earth! Merry Christmas to all!!

Oh well, go sit by the beach and enjoy a latte....it will be hunting season again soon...

AWWW shed hunting!!!
Wow I would do anything to go check the hay stack right now.
Well thats cool, glad to see your enjoying the great outdoors! Tonight I'm going on a date to some over priced corn fed steak house then!!! we are going to pay ten bucks to go skating in a area the size of my tool shed with hundreds of other people who've never had skates on before.
How did I let this happen
Anyone else pickin up any sheds yet?

You aint that far, grab your binos, spotting scope, camera and take the ferry out to Santa Catalina Island and see what you think of the muleys on that place, you might not want to come back to Alberta.

Wow, Keele - I feel for ya

With my job, I'm stuck in SoCal (Lancaster or San Bernardino) for about 3 months at a time. I hate it down there..

I found a decent skating rink in Burbank, though - kinda dark and dingy like the what I'm used to.

Very difficult to get away from traffic down there. I didn't even like going to the beach because of the traffic and sheer number of bodies there (it ain't all it's cracked up to be!!).

Good luck, maybe you can get northbound soon

Judging from two or three facts
1 How much will you ever have in common if you met in vegas and have totally different backgrounds?
2 Living with parents? At least get your own crib
3: If you are crazy now, wait until you are married

Sounds like you need to get a life and a solid career, move back home, visit the Bearbeary /Water Valley/ Cremona Saloons put on some beer goggles and find your soulmate there.
Recreating down south for a winter break, I can see that, but Not long term. But then maybe her parents could move in with you sometime when you move up here.

Pfffffttt!

This is what we've been dealing with in Calgary for three weeks now.

Look on the bright side. You now have the perfect opportunity to learn and perfect the Tubbs & Crockett system of judging/scoring racks.

Hang in there and have a Merry Christmas yourself.

1. Obsessed with guns, fishing, and horses. Just because I'm from California doesn't mean I can't ride or shoot and I don't love the outdoors.
2. Notice the "until spring". nothing wrong with visiting when you already have your own place lined up and you want to spend time with some super awesome people you've barely seen in the last 3 years. Some people value family.
3. Can you not tell it's a humorous post?

There is always one miserable lout in every crowd who wants to be negative. *rolls eyes*

well maybe you could take care of the local coyote problem! I might have some firearms around here you could borrow!

or if you're up to it, ride down the horse path to one of the ranches a mile up the road to check out the bulls we have here in California!

I lived near Temecula for a year. (Lake Elsinore) Pick up a pellet gun and have some fun. There are a ton of skunks, rabbits, ground squirrels, and lizards around there. Head on up to the ortega mountains, they are close. Lots of pretty hikes in there. Stop sitting around felling bad for yourself. Find some 'good old boy red necks' they always know where to get up to no good.

Yes, it's not well known but they just opened up muley hunting there in 2003. Muleys were introduced there in the 1930's. It used to be loaded with domestic sheep and feral goats but they were mostly removed due to overgrazing. They left the mule deer and they have grown to 1500 plus animals. Santa Rosa is better known and it has elk also.
Read an article recently about hunts there and there were a lot of pics of big deer and hunters were picking and choosing their bucks.

your post brings back memories, I lived near there for six years.

There was a women down there too; come to think of it she IS still down there.

I had a good time but eventually grew tired of the crowds, the traffic and the crazy people. You know why the call it the Granola State? Fruits, nuts and flakes.

Seriously after a while I started wondering if besides the hippies, ecofreaks, aspiring actors, aspiring pornstars, persons with alternative life styles,... there are any normal people. It was time to get out for me.

Having said that, California was at least for me an outdoorsman's paradise.

I remember back packs in the high desert, skiing up Mt San Gorgonio and San Jacinto, Joshua Tree in winter, Anza Borego... Lot's of beautiful country and wildlife. I loved the high desert, especially in winter and spring. Joshua Tree National Park in snow is something to behold.

There is pretty good hunting in California too. Don't know though how the regulations around hunting and guns are these days. They must have changed since I lived there, probably not for the better.

You're also close to Mexico. Drive to San Diego and fly to Cabo San Lucas for some deep sea fishing, good times. Also recommend trying sailing or kayaking and snorkeling out of Loretto.

I grew up in So Cal, married a Northern girl and have been living up here for 8 years now. You can keep it! The traffic, the whiners, the earthquakes, the plastic people, etc... Of course, it is the only place where you can go surfing and snowboarding in the same day

P.S. There should be lots of quality hunting opportunities at the local mall...I think it is legal in California to use a Tech Nine in this situation...

I lived in Fresno, CA for 6 years. The hunting was simply fantastic! The bear hunting is the best! If you want a color phase bear, then you need to go to the Sierras just east of the central valley. It is very rare to find a black black bear. Most are blondes, cinnamons, and chocolates. And most do not den up for the winter because of the mild temps. Aside from bear, you can also hunt pacific blacktails, there are more wild boar there than most states and they are shootable year round, lots of wing shooting (waterfowl, valley quail, pheasants, turkey), coyotes galore, lots of bobcats (yes, you can shoot them!), raccoons, possums, rabbits etc. Pic up some regs and go have yourself some fun! You should check out Yosemite... it will stay with you always after just one visit. Kings Canyon is also well worth the drive! That is how I kept my sanity while I lived there. Lots to do there, so enjoy it!!!
