Default Shedding Tips and Advice

Gday there,

Just trying to get a bit of tips and or advice on shedding.

When do elk, and both species of deer shed there horns in Alberta?

Walked around the bush today for a few hours followed lots of trails and lots of sign but no luck.

Have these species started shedding as of yet?

Seen lots of Elk scrapes and markings and bedding area but no horns..

Any advice and or tips even areas to scout would be welcomed.

was out today as well saw tons of good country, but no sheds. Did see 20 WT at least 7 of which we could tell were each carrying both antlers.

But as for when antlers shed:

Moose loose in late Dec. and Jan..
WT and Mulies loose any where from new years to april, with most shedding in Feb. in my opinion.
Elk are the last to shed, typically in march with the young bulls even streching to may.

I spent the day on saturday and found a 72" and 74" matching set, where the buck had been pawing in an alfalfa field. Still pretty early yet. I'm going to wait another 2 weeks before I start looking hard again.

Witnessed a moose shed his one side on the weekend! He just had the one left! Never seen one actually loose it before, it was cool! Small, young , moose.

If you know where they are hanging out feeding, bedding etc check those areas over and don't forget to throw a Horseshow in your pack for Good luck..It'll happen just put in the time.

Good Luck and have fun

I agree with these dates, most mulies hang on later into feb/march around here.
