Default Alberta Turkey

Well after an 11 year wait, the Oilers were finally in the playoffs and I was hunting turkey in southwestern Alberta again.

Unlike 11 years ago, this time I was successful!!!

Two days of intense spotting led to a great set up location on public lands. Within 60 minutes of first light on the first day of the season, I laid in wait listening to gobbles for over an hour, only to witness the dominant Tom swoop from the roost, pass my decoys, land, turn and come in trotting proud into my decoys.

End of the day I had asked about which shotgun/loads to use. I ended up using my Browning Cynergy with X-Full Browning extended Turkey Choke tubes and Federal 3 1/2 inch shells. With a 22 yard shot, I probably could have used much less. Within two hours my father also got his Jake, so we were home by dinner.

Very Cool! Love seeing AB longbeards hit the dirt. Congrats, hopefully we can relocate birds and expand the hunt in the coming years so your next tag doesn't take 11 years to draw.

Congrats on that great Tom. I got my first one this year, and was wearing my Oilers jersey when I shot it. lol Also first time I ever heard the real Gobble.
Would be great if they could establish themselves more in AB.

Nice job, it will be a few more years before I draw a tag. Never tried turkey hunting, but it seems like it would be fun. Congrats on your hunt.

Im about to apply for my tag next year but live In Grande Prairie so scouting to figure out what wmu I should apply would be a high priced weekend. Any advise on units that have more turkey and ones to avoid? I would probably go the public land route rather than private. Thanks in advance.

You apply for 305, and it allows a bunch of zones to hunt in. I am a P9 and hope to pull my take this year as well.
