Default WMU 523 Help

Hello everyone, as some of you may know I was not to happy when I was added to my uncles Undersubscribed elk draw this year since we got this WMU. He went out to two farmers in the area and was not able to get permission based on the fact that he had an accent and sounded like a fake. Does anyone have any idea how we could possibly hunt this WMU without stepping on anyones toes? I also found out that we cannot even give a Timmies card for letting us hunt on their land. I looked around on the county maps and there is the Wildlife reserve but that is in the nearby WMU . Any help is appreciated and I hope I wont get any " go out and do your own searching: replies, since we put in the time and looked around.

Keep knocking on doors.
Wash your truck.
Drive slow.
Dress nicely (no camo)
Don't swear.

I don't drive a truck haha. I also do not wear camo and don't have my gun strung over my shoulder like a redneck either. I just think we went to the wrong places, also on the maps I feel colour blind and cannot make out which colour is the crown land and such since all the greens look so similar!

I see this ^ lots no camo ? I don't get that . Doesn't wearing camo tell the landowner that you are maybe a hunter ? How is that a bad thing . Please explain . Too the op . Keep looking and knocking

Any area is helpful as long as we can help get rid of the elk that keep eating the hay the farmers work so hard for. We are going from Edmonton so an hour plus or minus won't hurt.

And it's annoying when people don't read what I write. I refuse to fall down to your level.

The way I read it is your looking for someone to give you there spot with out putting in the leg work (he went to two farmers ) if your not happy being a partner on his licence then simply don't hunt there did the two farmers actually tell you you could not hunt there because you have a accent ? Or is that an excuse? Every guy on this forum that is hunting private land has had farmers tell them no

Probably more than 2 farmers in the area. Go talk to more of them. Best advice you can get.

No I guess my accent makes it seem that way hey? 523 is huge and I mean being a fisherman as well if someone asks me what a good lake is in the area of Edmonton, I don't hesitate to tell them through private message. I used to guide in Texas and was I supposed to make every client sign a contract that they won't tell their friends or I will sue them? Hunters here and fishermen( many of them) are super rude and anal about their spots as if they are the only one that knows about it. I feel bad that most of the people here are so grumpy.

Yes, people are grumpy, but with good reason. If someone has a good area, it's likely they are not the only ones that know about it. But, if only a few people know about it, it is more likely to remain a good spot. The more people that know about it the chances are greater that it will not be as good of a spot in the future. Included in this is the abuse of the area attributed to slob hunters who don't care about the land, land owners or other hunters. The guys that have no respect and ruin it for the rest of us because we all get lumped into the same stereotype. I'm not saying you are a slob hunter, I'm just saying people are tired of good spots being ruined. I wish you the best of luck.
