Default Favourite lever?

I've been shooting for 30 years and after reading the 30-30 story thread I realized that I've not only never owned a lever action, I've only shot one ( a blr takedown in 7-08) once. I think I should remedy that and look for a lever in 30-30, 35 Rem, or 44 Mag.

That all said, what's your favourite lever action and why? Win 94 and Marlin 336 are certainly popular. Not sure how the Rossi, Henry, and Uberti line up? Would be shooting it with irons or peep sights.

Marlins are my favourite lever guns. But I currently have these:

Marlin .444
Savage 1899 in 30-30
Henry .22LR

I like my stainless Marlin 1894 in 44mag. Super smooth action now. Skinner peep sights. Just an all around fun gun to carry and plink with.

I have shot a lot of repeating levers over the years and the only one that I can really like is the 1895 .
The '94 has tied to make a home on a coner of my trap line cabin several times however , I used and sold three or four of them .

I omitted mentioning that the reason that I prefer Marlin is because of the design simplicity which makes them easily serviceable and more reliable in my opinion.

I've had several 94's over the years but I never really liked any of them, not sure why but they just don't do it for me.
I've had Marlins too and they are ok but the 1895 isn't long enough in the receiver for a long 350 or 400 grain bullet in the 45-70. That's something better left to the Chiappa 1886 which is a stronger action anyway.
Presently I'm having lots of fun with Rossi's and Chiappa's. The Rossi's can be a bit rough out of the box but you can dismantle it and deburr the action or just shoot it a bunch and smooth it out that way. I refinish the stocks and remove the gawd awful safety so they are more like the original 92's. The Chiappa 86 and 92's are pretty good right out of the box.
Pedesoli builds a real nice M86/71 but they are a bit pricey.

My two '95's were in 30/40 and . 303 Brit, two cartridges that I really have a preference for.

A friend has used an older'95 in 30'06 for many years and will not get anything else - it has the original Lyman peep sight on it .

Owned a few 94's none could be levered at the shoulder like my 1866 Yellow boy Uberti 44-40, slick smooth action that can used operated without taking your eyes off the target.
For hunting I once used a friends Marlin 45-70 it was a good rifle as well knocked a deer down at 60 yds. with no problem.

Default favorite levers

I've had a few 94's over the years, and never kept them long. Always seemed just a step up from a .22 and I like a bit more lead down the pipe!
I've owned a couple of .71's over the years (348 win) and they are fantastic bush medicine that put a couple of elk down for me.
I still have my grandfather's 250 savage takedown in a savage 99. Easy to pack, flatter shooting than the proverbial "thutty-thutty". It will be handed off to his great grandson shortly.
My next lever when I find it, will be a '95 in .405. If it was good enough for Teddy Roosevelt, I'll give'r a spin too!

The 99's I shot were all very accurate rifles , I just never got too crazy about them.
I have a few favourite levers , but they are all single shots!

Winchester model 94 carbine. Pre 64'. Why. Classis just feels good. I would like to shoot a 32-40 someday. I think that was the original cartridge.

I own the marlin 1895 stainless guide gun. It's the only one I've ever owned. So I guess that makes it my favourite. Lol.

Marlin beat Winchester to the design of the lever system and that is why Winchester has the goofy toggle system .

Default Favorite Lever?

Mine is the Winchester Model 88, because it's in .308 and has a removable clip!

JM (1985) 1895 45-70, barrel cut down (prefer pistol grip over straight) winchesters are nice, there is something I really like about Marlin big bores though sure would like to get an STP. Find the remlins handles are fatter than the JMs not a huge fan.

My favorite is the 94 ... just fit's ... marlin's are kinda ugly with the thick stock's ... but are fine rifle's ... alway's had a soft spot for the blr in 308 ... savage 99's are cool but to long and heavy .

This
My 94 feels and looks right, marlin in my opinion are a better smoother action. But the 94 just feels right with the smaller wood forearm, just me

Default Blr

I have had Marlin and Win 30-30's. Recently got a Henry Golden Boy.44 mag which is a beauty and fun to shoot. But my stainless BLR 300 Win Mag with Leupold 2-7 is by far the best. Big, heavy, hits hard and follows up fast.

Nor am I about your desired toggle system. I can field strip a Marlin in the field with nothing more than a ToolMan on my belt. Good luck doing that with a Winchester. I couldn't careless if the history of either rifle are correctly stated by you guys. But I've dismantled and reassembled both, too many times. Gimme a Marlin any day.

Count one more in the Marlin Camp.
Favorite is the Marlin 1895 classic in 45-70. Drives em home and drops them where they stand. Easy to clean/maintain, both in the field and at home. It's a hoot hammering the Gongs with heavy rounds too. I'm sure if I had the 1895 Cowboy that 'could' become the favourite - rather attached to that classic version though. Funny how we become rather attached to a specific rifle. Years ago I had a 336 in 30-30, wish I still had that one... If I did still have that 336 I may not have been introduced to the 1895, in this case a bigger hammer really is more fun.

Would love to collect a nice example of an 1893 Marlin, absolutely LOVE the look of those.

I've spent a fair bit of time playing with a Rossi 92. It has given me an appreciation for pistol calibre carbines. Ridiculously fun rifle, but the Marlin's really are less frustration to clean/work on.

I was talking about the 73 which is also easy to feild strip. It has the toggle action. I also prefer the 336 to the 94 of which i have both

Owning a marlin is like sleeping with the town bike. You realize you made a mistake the second your done.

My favourite lever is my Marlin Model 39A. It's put many a gophers and birds to rest. Next would be my Marlin 1894 in .44 mag.

I have several levers. My two favorite levers are

1. my great grandfathers Win 94 in 38-55 with tang sight, all orig. (family heirloom) Taken 3 deer so far.

A close second would be Win. 1895 in .405 Win. took me a long time to find it and it has harvested 2 moose and 1 elk so far. She barks but not that bad with a decelerator slip on pad on the bench and handloads will consistently keep just over an inch at 100 yards. Wish I could find an orig. peep sight for it and throw that on.
