Default Maui Fly Fishing

Hey,

Heading down to Maui middle of April, have been looking into things and have seen that there will be an abundance of fishing opportunities from shore just of the condo's deck.

I've look at many of the older post on this topic but just wondering if anyone has done any actual fly fishing done in this area and any recommendations or insight that you could offer would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Didn't see many game fish snorkeling unless you were in protected "marine parks". Years of angling have decreased fish populations along the beach. I heard that some bonefish and trevally come close during the low light periods. I did see some blue trevally in the parks though. They would be a great catch.

Hi,

Although these guys fish bamboo, they seem to be successful.

I used Google Earth and watched for flats. Several of them available.

You could try Maalaea Bay area north of Kihei. Water is shallow but gets discolored from debris. Not much for flats around Maui.

Have you fished Maui Don, or a different island?

We toured Kona this year and frankly didn't see a flat that I could fish. But, there was a couple of places where a sinking line and a Clouser should work. The marina just east of the airport has some areas that looked good. You have to walk 1/2 mile or so. I suspect wet wading is best.

I looked at this guy http://bonefishhawaii.com and decided that island jumping for a days fishing was a tad expensive.

Maybe another trip is needed!

Regards,

Don
