Default Experience with Vortex Impact 1000 Range Finder

I am contemplating to buy one of these for my son. Does anyone own one? How reliable is it and how far can you range with it? Thanks.

I have the 800 not the 1000 but here’s what I think.
It ranges pretty well up to 400 without a rest and I’ve ranged 650 while resting on a stand. Gives quick reads and angles down to 5 yards. I bought it for archery hunting and am happy that I can also use it for rifle because I won’t shoot 400 anyhow.

It's fairly good but I would encourage you to look at the Bushnell engage or prime 1700 Rangefinder series. I have one and can range deer out to 1000. For the price it's excellent.

Their stand alone range finders kinda suck. I went to the fury rangefinding binos and they’re excellent. Better off with a Leica. Good bang for the buck and super fast target acquisition. Make sure any rangefinder you buy has angle compensation mode.
