Default Wanham Pheasant Release site - TICKS

Just a heads up, that on the Alberta Wildlife forum, someone just posted that they experienced a heavy load of ticks on their body, clothes and in their car, after using the Wanham Alberta Pheasant Release site today.

Default Ticks

Thanks for the update.

I was there yesterday and have visited the release site a few times this year, But am not aware of ever bringing home any ticks on me or dog.

Last release Date was Oct 13th and The birds do seem to disappear for me within a few days after being released, so I will not be back this year.

Have never heard of anyone having issues with ticks in this area, but wife says there was a Facebook report this summer of ticks on a hiking trail in Grande Prairie area.

Unhuh. I call BS.

Not likely they are picking up ticks at this time of year. Greatest chance is spring and early summer, especially walking through tall grass.

The only time I get ticks are this time of year. I have read of them referred to as seed ticks.
Walk through tall marsh grass or small brush and you can get hundreds or thousands on you. Look like baby spiders but they are hard to squish. You can pop them if you crush them between fingernails or a knife blade.
I carry tape lint rollers in the vehicle to get them off me.

Different tick species have different seasonal life cycles. See 10-19-2020 post below by fish guy.
