Default Dishwasher recommendation

4 year old Maytag lost the wash pump. Lower dishrack also needs new wheel assemblies.Bad design on dish rack wheel parts,Rack wheel parts are about $ 180. Door needs new cables.
Total Repair cost estimate just shy of $900

So might as well just replace it.
But with what?
So far Maytag has been my worst dishwasher ownership experience over the last 40 years

We bought a super quiet Bosch. Not sure on model. We’ve always bought cheaper dishwashers and they simply don’t last. We finally spent good money on quality. You can’t even tell it’s running! For something we use multiple times a day I can’t believe it took me so long to run with the “buy once cry once” motto. No regrets

Had a Bosch that lasted about 5 1/2 years, replaced it with a Blomberg that we've had for about 1 1/2 years, so we'll see how that goes. Prior to that had an old Maytag that was in the house when we bought it, sounded like a 747 but was dead reliable and did a great job of cleaning. Used it for about 10 years before the kitchen reno. Not sure what the next will be, maybe I'll try Miele.

It seems that with every type of household appliance, the brand/model doesn't seem to matter, sometimes you end up with a dud.

I'm not sure what my dish or clothes washer is but they are amazing. I put my clothes in a white plastic thing and they are cleaned and folded in my drawer the next day. Also I leave the table and with in an hour the dishes are done and put way. I'll ask what brand they are, but you guys got to get one of these if you can find them.

it is the NICEWIFE brand of machine

lifetime warranty, easy to service, comes with a permanent smile

was expensive to purchase as the machine actually did a interviewing before
it allowed me to purchase

wants small things like respect and stuff

does not leak oil water or other fluids

was a good purchase for me

Beat me to it, mine is just a little different;

Limited warranty, servicing take a little work, I must have gotten a different model.

Same small things, respect, stuff, room when desired

Has the very odd minor leak, generally after a huge laughing fit.

This wasn't a purchase model, apparently I am on the lifetime rent to own lease.

We got a Bosch about 10 years ago, it was one off from the top of the line (for some reason the top of the line only came in stainless...). The only issue we have had with it was the relay for the heater bit it. I took the board out, de-soldered the relay and soldered a new one in its place and it has been fine since.

It is super quiet. About the only thing you hear is the water gurgling in the drain. If you put the plugs in the sink drain, you don't even hear that.

Bosch or Miele are about the only 2 really good ones.I replaced my 12 year old Miele this summer with another one both where the cheapest models they had at the time.I think if I could do it again would go with the Bosch this time the new Miele does not seem as well built and especially the racks as the old one,and it does a really crappy job of drying them unless you remember to open the door right after it finishes .That being said if you pay enough you can get one that automatically opens the door after it runs

One of my peeves of the Maytag was the run times of the cycles being excessively long.
Although not brutally loud-the long run times were annoying compared to my old Kitchen-Aid which did a normal wash in under an hour.

But in the newer technology Maytag
Powerwash cycle is over 4 1/2 hours
Auto is well over 3 hours
Normal is over 2 1/2 hours

Literature say the run times are designed to save energy and reduce water comsumption ???????

That sucks that your machine packed it in so quickly, I remember when you got that one too! I had a bad run with dishwashers myself, built my house 11 years ago and am already a couple of years into machine #3. And the first one was a Miele, great machine and super quiet, but the repair price? Fuggedaboudit

What did you end up with for #3?

I laugh at the badge on the Maytag prominently stating a 10 year Limited warranty-but in small print-only the Racks, Stainless Steel Tub and Chopper Blades.

And the 8 Wheels that failed and fell off into the heating element in year 2 on the Lower Rack are not covered under the 10 year Rack Warranty

Because as everyone knows the wheel assemblies that are built into the base
of the rack are not considered part of the Rack

First was Miele, then Electrolux, now a Kitchen Aid (I put the same Kitchen Aid in my basement suite). I won't say a thing about it/them though as I don't want to jinx anything.

We picked up an LG a few months back after our Whirpool crapped out on us.

The LG came with a ten year warranty on the washer motor, and I thought the racks and spray arms were some of the more robust designs out of the models I looked at. I went in planning to spend $500-$600, but after seeing what was available for that dollar value, I quickly pivoted and spent $1,000. It was already said on here, but buy once, cry once.

We have 8 people in our family, so the dishwasher is always being used, and loaded/unloaded by kids, and it has been awesome for the last few months here. No issues whatsoever, highly reccomended.

Yeah, I've been using an Armstrong dishwasher for 40 years now...never has broken down, though sometimes it makes a grumbling sound

We had an Asko that lasted 16 years but then the motor packed it in. Parts for Mielle/Asko aren't cheap so we changed it out last month for a mid range Bosch 300 series. It was just over $1000. We bought it through Costco and they add another year to the warranty. It comes with a three prong plug vs. hardwire. The things it didn't come with that you'd need is the 1/2" to 3/8" brass elbow adapter and the water line.

So far it's been great. Install was easy and 44dB is super quiet and we really like the adjustable height second rack and top 3rd rack for silverware and utensils. It has a 60 minute quick wash that works really well. Typical wash time for the Normal or Auto settings is 2 hours.

I installed a high end Bosh, best d-washer ever, if it went tonight would have another Bosh in the kitchen tomorrow.

What's also important is some monthly preventative cleaning maintenance by adding 1/2 of 1 cup of vinegar after the first rinse is completed and the unit is finished draining or before the soap dispenser door opens, the vinegar cleans the internal unit during the wash & the S/S keep shining like B-new & your dishes come out squeaky clean and smell nice, too.

Another vote for Bosch. Quiet and does a great cleaning job.

Would consider Miele if this one packs it in.

The only complaints that I have is how awkward the racking is on it - I swear that I was able to pack twice as much stuff into my old Kenmore from 20 years ago. Especially maddening that I can't do cookie sheets in it. The other thing I miss about the Kenmore is the built-in macerator. Just have to make sure that there are no solids on the dishes when loading (chunks of vegetables, such as peas/carrots etc.)

We had a Bosch for 10 years. The circuit board packed it in once and was starting to go again. Seemed it was a a common issue with an undersized component. The display would countdown and get stuck at 1 minute or something.
As one poster said you can solder and hope it works. I tried and it lasted a few weeks so replaced it for 200 bucks.
Seemed to last another 4 years and started the intermittent problem again and I wasn't about to drop another 200 on a board so dumped it for a Miele.
I also remember an issue with the pump getting stuck once and having to take it apart to flush it out.
The Bosch was much better for squeezing more dishes in my wife tells me.
Both are so quiet you wouldn't know they are running.

Doesn't leak yet? You haven't had it very long eh?
