Default 2023 Big Game Season - Now In The Books

Tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM the convoy rolls out for Elk and Moose camp 2023, 6 of us in total, we'll have a day to get everything set up in camp and the elk season opens Sunday morning Sept 17 with the moose opener the following Sunday Sept 24. We have a couple more guy's showing up for a week in moose season, 2 of the boy's were drawn for bull moose, I have a cow elk draw and we have a couple general 3 point of better bull elk tags.

The anticipation has been building for weeks now with preparation again, 1978 was year 1 for me in camp so this is the 45th year chasing elk and moose and it still get's the blood flowing, we now have 2 nephews and 2 nephews boy's hunting with us along with 2 of my BIL's, us old retired guy's be in camp for a min 2 weeks unless we have an unfilled moose tag then the old boy's will hang out a while longer trying to fill it.

Got to run still have a few things to do today last minute, more to come later with pic's I hope.

Good luck to everyone and safe hunting.

Are we using this thread for the 2023 Harvest Thread. I’ve got some Elk harvest pictures to post but would rather not start another thread if it’s not necessary.

No GPS coordinates needed. My honey hole is about a mile from my house as the crow flies. WMU 248. Bow Zone. Storyland Valley Zoo. Really diverse ecosystem. Lotsa game.

Default Update

Short update my nephew tagged a nice 5 x5 bull elk a couple days ago so there was meat on the pole, service is crappy here so can't upload the pics but we had a late night skinning party and midnight supper 😀 just perfect.
3 more guys coming in tonight for the opener of moose season tomorrow morning at 7:17 AM let the calling begin.
The grub is great as always and I sleep like a baby out here, hard to think we're been here 8 days already.
Good luck everyone ill drop in later
Ed

Well it's Dec 1 and the book is closed on the 2023 hunting season, even though I didn't drop the hammer on a big game animal this year it was a great season again, I spent 17 day's in the bush with 2 BIL's, 2 Nephews and my brother from a different mother that I have hunted with for 40+ years now, plus another friend and his son along with 1 more of my nephew's made it to camp for 8 day's, it simply doesn't get any better than that in my book. This year saw another first as my nephew took his first bull elk, a nice 5 x 5 and he was pumped.

I spent lot's of time in the blind hunting geese and ducks with my good buddy and fellow AO member @Frank NK28 and have now turned my full attention to coyotes, but those are other threads on here so I'll leave it at that.

Oct 16 was a sad day as I lost a very dear old friend, I spent lots of time with him in his last days and was with him at the time of his passing, this one is going to leave a hole for sure, but at the same time it has made me realize just how precious the days are that we spend with good friend's doing what we love to do, sometimes the memories are so strong they run down my cheeks.

For those of you that are still out and about in the field enjoy every minute of it and soak it in, hunt hard and hunt safe 🙏 God willing we will all have more threads to start in the 2024 hunting season.
