Default Mustad Snaps, Rio quick clip/snap, no knot fas snap, etc

Getting tired of changing my flies once in a while, saw these microsnaps on market and they look pretty good for quick fly changing.

I bought a size 3 mustad snaps on sar and it looks very applicable for nymph/dry fly fishing.

Heres the size reference for 12-16 fly on size 3 mustad snap which is the smallest

Whats your opinion on this?

These have been around for a very long time, a lot of people love them. When I worked at a fly fishing shop we couldn't keep em in stock as they would fly off the shelf. I never use them myself, not that I haven't tried them but I can tie a knot in seconds so never have seen the need. If you like em go for it.

Just another gimmick to take your money and go missing in your vest! Tying knots is part of the game.

I just take regular snap swivels and cut off the swivel. Quick and cheap.

They are ok to use with some larger streamers and nymphs. They are totally unsuitable for presentation dry fly fishing. The fish can see them in clear conditions and ime, will reject them because of it. In my very brief experiments with using them, waiting ten minutes along with removing the "snap" and tying a knot resulted in increased hook-ups.

All that said, they have a place. As owlhoot said, they are a boon for older eyes (which I have too, unfortunately) though I would try and come with alternatives for dry-fly fishing (a pair of magnifiers, cheap at dollar store or drug store, is my solution).

Seems sacrilegious! HA HA! But now that I have to take off my sunglasses, dig out my reading glasses, and struggle to tie on a new fly every time in the blinding sun because my sunglasses are off.......

How would they work for indicator stillwater fishing? Too heavy?
