I hate cilantro
How come this stuff sneaks into many restaurant menus without warning? Since most people taste for this stuff is highly polarized, it should be noted.
Rant on!

I am also not a fan of the overwhelming nature of this sudden explosive diuretic.
It's like eating a bowl of you grandma's potpourri and eating a full bar of ex-lax chocolate.
Rant ........... game on

Agreed. It's horrible stuff lol. I understand some freaks enjoy the stuff, but why, WHY, do chefs/cooks insist on putting it into the food? Leave it as a garnish on the side. Don't mince it and mix it into the food!

People who possess the gene OR6A2 taste cilantro as a bar of soap. Studies I have read estimate that between 10-17% of the population possess this gene, and the accompanying strong distaste for cilantro.
I feel bad for you fellers that have that gene. You are missing out on something fantastic.

Interesting... I definitely do not have this gene, because I love cilantro. I couldn’t imagine eating a bowl of soup, any chicken dish, or guacamole without it.

When I taste it, I wish I was driving....so I could steer into oncoming traffic and end the torture in my mouth.

I too love Brussels sprouts, in fact I had them with a ribeye for dinner tonight, but I understand a lot of people hate them... now I’m wondering if its a genetic predisposition where people taste them differently? I am not a big fan of eating anything gross but with some melted butter and a dash of salt i find them absolutely delicious.

I understand your dislike for it but the oil is a terrific attractant for black bear hunting.

Did you know there is a certain percent of the population that tastes cilantro differently than others? I fall into the category as well. If there is a hint of cilantro in something that’s all I can taste. Look it up! It’s how some people’s taste buds work... that’s why some of you can’t understand the fuss. Well it’s almost like eating soap to some of us lol.
*edit: I see this has been brought up earlier

There is a great viet sub shop right outside of T & T Supermarket in WEM. Try the Satay chicken or beef sub with extra cilantro. To die for.

You can't enjoy a real taco, particularly a Baja fish taco, without cilantro. Or any real Mexican food for that matter. My wife makes a sopa de ablondigas (meatball soup) that is to die for....needs fresh mint and cilantro though.

Until recently, we had a great Chinese restaurant in Olds, named Cilantro.

I can’t even describe it as tasting the same as soap. It tastes similar but is like a horrible rancid soap on steroids. If I taste it it haunts me for hours.
The worst thing I have put in my mouth. There are a few foods I don’t like but if someone serves it up I can eat anything except cilantro.

I wonder if different ethnicities have more or less of this gene?
I assume it must not be common in Mexicans, but from this informal survey, it seems that old white guys are predisposed to it.
Or maybe all you old guys just hate everything.
Next question:
Do you people who taste cilantro as soap, also get stinky pee from asparagus?
I think we're going to make some important scientific discoveries on this thread today.
I'm excited for mankind.

No stinky pee and I can eat asparagus by the bushel. If I over indulge on pickled beets, it can catch me off guard.
