What's the best stain too use to get them looking like new

Potassium Permanganate is the best, and used by more taxidermists I know than any other.

Cons:
Tricky to use, and will stain anything it comes into contact with.

Pros:
Lasts basically forever
Looks very natural when applied correctly

It depends how dark they are naturally...

It's like color-matching new hardwoood flooring to old stuff, you have to test it out.

If the antlers are cracked or rough tho , it is very difficult to get a nice finish

I use minwax stain the colour I stick with is " provincial" it seems to match fairly well just do a little at a time and add coats to colour match darker horns.

I use the min-wax 'provincial' stain as well, and highlight with min-wax 'walnut'. Just gob it on and then wipe it off with a soft cloth. It gives a very natural look - not 'painted' on at all.

There is an antler stain available from Select Taxidermy in Calgary. I have used it many times and you can do light medium or dark.....just keep applying with a rag until you have the desired effect.
