Default Duro-felt wads

Has anyone used their product? Is there something as good or better closer to home?

Hello all

I hate reopening an old thread but I am looking at the same thing and would like to keep the info together.

So I was looking at making my own felt wads and found a good source for how to do it at:

https://www.thehighroad.org/index.ph...making.561415/

I would like to know if anyone is making there own felt wads and if they have found a source for the material local. The source could be just in Canada to help reduce the cost from exchange. A lot of the stuff to make the lube is easy to get from your local hardware or grocery store. Seems the felt is the biter of the deal. I have seen the wads punched before and after lubing of the felt. If you make them do you punch first then lube?

I have found felt at Norwesco that I am going to try. They are the same price as the duro-felt supplier is after you do the conversion and you save the shipping if you live near them.

Hope this helps someone.

TF

For all they cost it isn't worth making them.

That is a good link for wads and cards for cartridges and shotgun use. They don't list the 0.125 thick felt ones for black powder revolvers. Most sources for them are about $7 per 100. At that price it doesn't take long to add up.

I looked there and you got the wrong page. Those are for cartridges as well. This is the page for the muzzle loading revolver felt wads:

I got a piece of the felt from Norwesco. Cost was good at $27 for a 6"X60" strip off the end of the roll. If you get lucky the branch you go to will have cut offs and you can get a discount. They will even punch it out for you but I don't know how much it would cost. I used a circles in rectangle page to find out how many you could get out of it and it says about 2871. For the price that is a good number. If you go this route you can check other gasket makers for it. A warning though, have a look at the material to make sure it is what you want. The first one they showed me was more of a 3/16 than a 1/8.
