Default Shed in trees?

went for check the trail came yesterday and herd a bird in the tree so i looked up and than out of the corner of my eye i seen a 4 point deer shed in the tree. so why would someone leave them up there? respect for the deer or to mark his area of hunt?

It could be that a tree stand hunter forgot one of his antlers to rattle with. I found a matching set tied together in a tree once. Or, someone found an antler and decided to hang it in a tree. I've never heard of any significance to put an antler in a tree for any particular reason.

I always wedge older sheds in trees, hoping to harvest them one day...

I've also seen a few hangers from bucks rubbing, and one mule deer antler 20' up a tree?

It could be that the deer shed it against the tree and it got lodged. Then the tree kept growing. Found a cow moose skull about 15 feet up a few years ago. Was the only thing I could come up with.

I suspect someone put it on a branch.

At wall tent moose camp i want to try and put a couple sheds with mechanics wire on some saplings and see it they will grow into the tree. Seen it on the net and it looks cool if it works. Maybe my future grand kids will see the fruits of my labor lol.

At the tent i have a nice for that area, 5 pt rack WT with head high up in a spruce tree. Found the buck dead on the last day of the season a few years back. Wolves and yotes ate him all except the head. I hunted that area hard for years prior and never seen him so he remains as a memory. I have put sheds in branches where i found them too.

Huh!? trees grow up? Maybe in your area😊.
I put sheds in trees especially skulls cause I don't want to get a permit.

All the moose sheds on my Trapline go into the trees. On the old mans line there are many that are 20-30 feet up now.
Just something we have always done.

If you put a nail in a tree it will not rise in height. Only the tip grows. If they are 20 to 30 feet up they were always at that height. That is what I have always thought anyway.....

agreed.
if that theory was true all barb wire fences that used live trees for posts would have to be redone every five years.
it might up a inch or few but not enough to worry about.

I've heard that natives do this, or at least some do. Don't know if it's a tradition with the local tribes, but could be.

Not to come off as an @$$. But trees definatley do not grow up from the base. The tips put on new growth, and the base will grow in diameter

lol...that reminds me of the time we were running some barb wire on a row of trees, and an old timer came by and thought we were nuts, cause he thought the fence would be up in the air in the years to come.
