Default Bads

Ran into a fella in Halfords the other day & the conversation about BADS came up as I was picking up some 265 LBs , I mentioned about replacing them when I'm rebuilding what ever snares I need to replace . Gentleman mentioned he just rechecks them & if they look good he just reuses them . Just said ,while they may work but you're kind of taking a chance, you might have them fail & loose a coyote . He said he hasn't had a problem with that . On a full grown male coyote after a catch , curious what the pressure on the BAD would be . Of course the breaking point on the 265 LB , releasing a moose or deer for example but compare what the pressure on the BAD would be after a coyote catch probably doesn't compare to a moose or deer . Maybe MARTY can add some light/ info to this .

I have i idea what pressure would be but have seen a few partially opened after a catch.I try and not reuse more than a couple times at most . They are cheap compared to loosing a good coyote.

I reuse them in at most times. I don't if they seem to have been over compromised.

I've heard from a few fellas who had those 265# Halford's BADs open up on coyotes. Not an epidemic but it has happened. These are 280# BADs that held but partly opened and the camlock fell off when I cut the snare. Obviously, I changed these ones but I will reuse ones that show no signs of weakening. Bads are cheap and better safe than sorry IMO. When in doubt, change them out.

I lost 8 Coyotes to 265's opening up this season. All Snares now have 280's from Marty.
