Default Cheap High River Homes For Sale By Alta Gov't

http://surplus.gov.ab.ca/OA/ItemList.aspx?categoryID=47

In June 2013, Alberta experienced the largest and most expensive flood disaster in its history. Almost 100,000 people, 10,000 structures, and a substantial amount of infrastructure were affected by flooding that spanned 50,000 square kilometres. Structures bought by the Province, through the Floodway Relocation Program, were inspected to determine their condition. Based on the assessment, the structures and materials that may be salvaged will be available for sale to the public.

As part of the Floodway Relocation Program, Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Alberta, as represented by the Minister of Infrastructure("Vendor") seeks Bids to purchase a Structure, detach from the foundation by lifting/raising, and move the Structure to a new location determined by the Purchaser. The Structures are located within Alberta and the Vendor is the owner of the Structures. The land (ie. real property) is NOT included in this Auction. The Structures are sold on an "as is, where is" basis and there is no express or implied warranty or fitness for any purpose. Bidders must conduct their own assessment of the Structures.

I was just looking at that.
Just about the only thing listed on the auction right now.
Bids start at $1 Bob.
Must be something wrong with them.

That can be remedied, long as the price is right. Moving cost is going to be substantial as well.

We had a large house moved by Wade's out of Taber and they did a great job.

Moving a house is expensive. And the utility businesses aren't cheap to deal with during moves as well. Something for people to keep in mind

Doors probably been kicked off or battered in but that`s ok. Certain dedicated "public servants" could check "things" much easier without them bothersome doors in the way !

Default It can add up

A friend had one of these lined up a while ago and didn't close the deal. Moving something like this can be a big bill, some of them would be very tough to move at any cost; I believe there was also some deadline on having it moved out.

In his case, the house he had in mind was bigger than what he wanted, his wife disliked the layout and it would have needed significant updating prior to move in. Don't get me wrong, it would still have been cheaper than a new build but not so much that he was willing to go ahead.

Don't rush into something like this, minor details can become big costs and once you buy it, you own it.

If you owned property near high level, you could probably get a real great deal that was worth the moving cost.
Anyone care to guesstimate how much it would cost to move house from high level to Bassano?

Being a resident of High River and having walked through this neighborhood the govt looked after these houses as best as possible. None of doors were kicked in and they all had lock boxes on them. The lawns were all mowed, trees trimmed and leaves swept up. The windows were all boarded up from the INSIDE, which gave the appearance people still lived there. Most of the houses had only slight flooding, others none at all. Up until a few months ago 2 hold out families still lived there. These houses are actually on the old river course and the new berm does not protect them from the river.

45000+ a tall wide house that will require lots of line lifting will be costly
