Default Duck/Goose floater weights

Hey guys, I'm going through my decoys and realizing i'm missing a few weights, and after spending some time at Cabelas (which is always bad) I'm going to need more weights for my decoys. Just curious what you guys are using, as the price of the store bought ones are outrageous. I was able to get some a while back from a welder friend, however he has moved back to Ontario so I'm SOL until I can get ahold of a shop here. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you!

I've had some luck at the local tire shops and got some of the used tire weights.

I melted down wheel weights in a metal ladle and used a paper egg carton as a mold. A cut down fence staple bent 90 degrees provided a looped attachment point for a line. Works great and you can choose the end weight you desire.

Note: Do this in a well vented area due to fumes from grease and metals.

Large metal bolt nuts work fine.

I use a 1" strip of plumbing lead, about 10" long.
Bend a bit of a hook in it and it will grab the weeds.
Bend it around the keel after wrapping up the strings to keep from getting tangled in the bag.

We just use old beat up lug nuts of tire rims. We have an endless stash due to one of our guys being a mechanic. They work perfectly and we NEVER get ****ed off about losing the odd one.

I will get a hold of the local Kal-Tire and or Canadian tire and see if they have old nuts and bolts etc to use. I will also pick up some solder and try that on some decoys, see how that works out for me this year!

I mixed concrete in dixie cups, put a length of bent wire into it and let it set. $5 bag of concrete will make hundreds of the things

Dipped them a couple times in deck sealer I had laying around to help them last longer in water. And like someone said, no big deal if you lose one.

I poured molten lead in a piece of split lengthwise copper pipe. You can make weights similar to what they sell this way.
